  • Things that may fail you:   Screws that get stripped when you try to put a shelf on a wall.
  • The paper plate you’re holding at a dinner party.
  • The temperature knob on your toaster
  • People, places, things, relationships.
  • The one thing, though, that will never fail you:   God’s love.


  • It’s like putting together pancake batter.
  • Once the ingredients are combined they can’t be separated.
  • Once God’s love is in your life, it’s there for good.


  • I saw an interview with Billy Graham that amazed me.
  • In it, he said “I think about the failures in my life in the past.”
  • You know, it’s hard to put the word “failure” and the words “Billy Graham’s life” together.
  • However, it reminds me of the line in this song that says:   “I know I still make mistakes. You have new mercy for me everyday. 'Cause Your love never fails.”
  • If Billy Graham thinks his life has some failure in it, then you and I can take heart, because it shows that even the Godliest among us have trouble measuring up.
  • But Billy Graham, in the same sentence said “I know my failures have been covered by the blood of Christ, and that gives me a great sense of confidence.”
  • What that means, is that Christ’s sacrifice covers everything we’ve ever done that was wrong.
  • Past, present and future.
  • And His sacrifice was done because of His love for us.   A love that never fails.


  • My friend’s toddler was running through the house when he tripped and hit his head on the corner of a baseboard.
  • It caused him to need stitches.
  • I thought about that when I saw the words in this song that say:   “Even if I run away, your love never fails”
  • We are like that toddler.   We run and run.
  • Inevitably we fall.
  • It’s at that point that God scoops us up, and stitches us back up.
  • He never runs out of stitches, or band-aids, or the love and concern to care for us.


  • There are probably a few places where you grew up that haven’t changed much.
  • And those places make you feel comfortable, don’t they?
  • In the same way, God’s love is comforting.
  • It stays the same through the ages.
  • And you can come back to it whenever you need it.

    Love never fails. But where there are prophecies,   they will cease; where there are tongues,   they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

    for his compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

    Your Own Experiences

    Did you ever threaten to run away when you were a kid?   Did you realize that someone actually did love you, and did that cause you to stay?


    Right down everything that God does in one week that shows His consistent love for you.   Then share that list around this song.   Encourage the listener that God IS there working all things together for our good, we just tend to daily forget it.


    What did you do last Wednesday?   What did you have for dinner two nights ago?   What did you wear this past Saturday?   If we have so much trouble remembering these kind of things is it any wonder that we forget how God brought us through troubles last month or last year?   Remind the listeners how His love has been consistently there for them, even if it’s hard to remember.
