Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

I’m accepted, You were condemned
I’m alive and well, Your Spirit is within me
Because You died and rose again

Amazing love, how can it be
That You, my King, should die for me?
Amazing love, I know it’s true
It’s my joy to honor You
In all I do, to honor You

You are my King
You are my King
Jesus, You are my King
You are my King

TID-bits

  •  When you find out that your old boss is leaving, and your new one is coming in, you tend to learn everything you can about the new one.
  • What’s their favorite candy? Do they like the outdoors? What are their kid’s names?   etc....
  • That’s why we read our Bibles, and pray.   It’s because we want to know everything there is to know about our boss, Jesus.
  • And what we find out above all, is that He has an amazing love for us.

---------------------------------------------

  • They say that the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.   But I think that statement is truer if you substitute the word “dog” for “man.”
  • It’s because, based on experience, I know that a dog will follow you anywhere if you feed them.
  • It’s the concept of reciprocating love:   “You give me food, I give you love.”
  • The Amazing Love that’s talked about in this (that) song is so amazing because it’s not reciprocating.
  • Jesus would still be a king who died for you, even if you don’t show Him any love in return.

---------------------------------------------

  • The words to this (that) song remind me of a tradition they do in my friends church.
  • The Pastor kneels and he invites all the congregation to kneel as he gives his opening prayer before his sermon.
  • I think of that when I hear “it’s my joy to honor you.”
  • It’s because kneeling is traditionally what one does before a king.
  • Is there a way that you can honor Jesus today because of the amazing love He’s shown you?

---------------------------------------------

  • When it says “your Spirit is within me” in this (that) song, it makes me think “do I even have my own Spirit anymore?”
  • I’m guessing I do, because I still see it rearing it’s ugly head from time to time.
  • Paul says it in book of Romans:   “For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.”
  • We have to do what it says in the Bible   - to put to death our sinful nature.   Unfortunately, we get to see it rise again over and over.
  • That’s the great thing about Jesus.   Even though we’ll constantly deal with that sinful nature, and should be condemned because of it, He still accepts us because of His condemnation on the cross.

---------------------------------------------

  • Take a look at your to do list today.
  • I know it’s extensive, but pick just one thing.
  • Here’s one that’s on my list:   “Drop off Dry Cleaning.”     (DJ, you can feel free to pick something specific off your list)
  • What if you said, “Jesus, I’m going to honor you in that one thing?”
  • Perhaps it would be by saying a kind word to the person behind the counter.
  • What if you then took the next item on your to do list, and asked again “Jesus, how can I honor you” with this task?
  • You’d be living out the words of this (that) song, where it says “In all I do, I honor you.”
  • And you would be changing the world.

---------------------------------------------

  • We think the name of the song should be “Amazing Love,” but it’s actually “You Are My King.”
  • It makes sense that the emphasis is on His kingship.   Because once we realize He is the King over all the universe, realizing that He loves us is truly amazing!

    Scripture References

    John 14:15-17

“If you love me, you will obey what I command.   And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever– the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

    -----------------------------------------------

    John 14:21

Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”

    -----------------------------------------------

    1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.   It is not rude, it is not self—seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.   It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

    -----------------------------------------------

    Psalm 17:7

Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes.

    -----------------------------------------------

    Psalm 86:13

For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths of the grave.

    -----------------------------------------------

    Psalm 117:2

For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.

    -----------------------------------------------

    1 John 3:1-3

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about a random act of kindness that you have done, or that someone has done for you, and how that is a bit of amazing love that you experienced.

    -----------------------------------------------

Remember watching the wedding of Catherine and William?   Talk about William being a future king, and the love He showed to his bride.   Now mention how that love is nothing compared to the love that the King of the Universe has for you.

    -----------------------------------------------

Talk about how a parent sacrificed for you.   How they had to put their own lives down, or on hold, for you.   Compare that to the sacrifice that God and Jesus made for you.
