Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

There's a girl in the corner

With tear stains on her eyes

From the places she's wandered

And the shame she can't hide

She says, "How did I get here?

I'm not who I once was.

And I'm crippled by the fear

That I've fallen too far to love"

But don't you know who you are,

What's been done for you?

Yeah don't you know who you are?

You are more than the choices that you've made,

You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,

You are more than the problems you create,

You've been remade.

Well she tries to believe it

That she's been given new life

But she can't shake the feeling

That it's not true tonight

She knows all the answers

And she's rehearsed all the lines

And so she'll try to do better

But then she's too weak to try

But don't you know who you are?

You are more than the choices that you've made,

You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,

You are more than the problems you create,

You've been remade.

You are more than the choices that you've made,

You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,

You are more than the problems you create,

You've been remade.

'Cause this is not about what you've done,

But what's been done for you.

This is not about where you've been,

But where your brokenness brings you to

This is not about what you feel,

But what He felt to forgive you,

And what He felt to make you loved.

You are more than the choices that you've made,

You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,

You are more than the problems you create,

You've been remade.

You are more than the choices that you've made,

You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,

You are more than the problems you create,

You've been remade.

You've been remade

You've been remade.

You've been remade.

You've been remade.

TID-bits

  • If you know Jesus, you’ve been remade, which gives you the freedom to move forward and live a complete and exciting life.
  • Are you remembering that you’re remade, or are you stuck in trying to “re-live” the past?
  • This is (That was) Tenth Avenue North.

-----------------------------------------------

  • Life doesn’t happen without hardships.
  • The difference is that some people let hardships (like failure and hurt relationships) dictate their days.
  • Others embrace hardships - like starting a business, starting a family, learning an art, or a sport,   - to make their lives better.
  • Maybe one of the difficult, but worthwhile, things that you could start is reading the Bible everyday.
  • In there you’ll find the truth that God has to say about you.
  • It’s the truth found in this song from Tenth Avenue North...

-----------------------------------------------

  • We all want to shield ourselves from being hurt.
  • Unfortunately pain is a part of life.
  • Fortunately, though, that pain can make us better.
  • This song (that song) has a line in it about “where your brokenness brings you to.”   Are you letting your pain bring you closer to God?
  • It’s a much better choice than letting your pain pull you away from Him.

-----------------------------------------------

  • That song (This song) talks about being more than the sum of your past mistakes.
  • When you add God into the equation of your life, the sum of two plus two can usually equals way more than four.

-----------------------------------------------

  • Psalm 139:14 says:   I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,   I know that full well.
  • Most people, when they hear it said that they know something “full well,”   think that it means that they know it completely.
  • I think in this instance you can also say that “you know that full well of deep water " that is God’s love for you.
  • Here’s Tenth Avenue North with that full well..

    Scripture References

    Psalm 139:14.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,   I know that full well.

    -----------------------------------------------

    Psalm 86:13

For great is your love toward me;   you have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead.

    -----------------------------------------------

    Psalm 117:2

For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever.

    Your Own Experiences

Where would you like to be remade?   Something physicially?   Something relationally - like being a better spouse or parent?   Think about a how the pain of those situations cause you to pray.  And remember - praying is a good thing!

    -----------------------------------------------

Think of someone who came from homelessness or abuse and is now living a life that displays God’s grace and love.   That is a story of being “more than the choices that you make, and more than the sum of your past mistakes.”

    -----------------------------------------------

Think about reaching out to help someone hurting.   How have you comforted someone who’s gone through an emotional upheaval - like losing a spouse, or their marriage.  Is there someone you can reach out to today,   if for no other reason, than to just let the hurting person know that someone cares.

One Response so far.

  1. I know people that have had parts replaced: hips, knees, kidneys…it’s amazing how their lives have changed. Even more incredible is how God can take us with our worn-out, messed up hearts and minds and make us brand new!
