Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

They say
You're the King of everything
The One who taught the wind to sing
The Source of the rhythm my heart keeps beating

They say
You can give the blind their sight
And You can bring the dead to life
You can be the hope my soul's been seekin'

I wanna tell You now that I believe it
I wanna tell You now that I believe it
I do, that You can make me new, oh

CHORUS
I'm an empty page
I'm an open book
Write Your story on my heart
Come on and make Your mark

Author of my hope
Maker of the stars
Let me be Your work of art
Won't You write Your story on my heart

Write Your story, write Your story
Come on and write Your story, write Your story
Won't You write Your story on my heart

My Life
I know it's never really been mine
So do with it whatever You like
I don't know what Your plan is
But I know it's good, yeah

I wanna tell You now that I believe in
I wanna tell You now that I believe in
In You, so do what You do, oh

CHORUS

I want my history
To be Your legacy
Go ahead and show this world
What You've done in me
And when the music fades
I want my life to say

I let You write your story, write Your story
Write Your story, write Your story

TID-bits

  • Use this song to cap off any time you air a story from a listener.

------------------------------------------

  • “That you are here—that life exists and identity, That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.” - Poet Walt Whitman
  • (You may also remember Robin Williams quoting that from the movie "Dead Poets Society.")

------------------------------------------

  • In "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" the Author, L. Frank Baum, has the Wizard give to the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodsman, and the Cowardly Lion, items that signify that they really do have brains, a heart, and courage.
  • These characters are given items to affirm their self-confidence.
  • We also have an author who wants us to have the self-confidence we need.
  • And He uses what we experience everyday to write it on our hearts.

------------------------------------------

  • God writes His story on our hearts.
  • Francesca Battestelli says it's Jeremiah 29:11  "For I know the plan I have for you.  Plans to give you a hope and a future."
  • We just have to remember to go back and re-read what He's written - and to let it soak in.

------------------------------------------

  • The origin of the word "Author" comes from a Middle English word that means "a person who invents or causes something.
  • What are you trying to invent today, or cause to happen today?  Perhaps it would be best left to the ultimate author of life.

------------------------------------------

  •  I was looking at the guest book from my wedding recently.
  •  It made me realize that I have a lot of people who are willing to be counted on to be a part of my life.
  •  It made me think of this song, and how I should maybe let God sign into my life on a more regular basis.

------------------------------------------

  •  Did your mom ever have to declare that she knew you?
  •  Maybe you were in a department store, acting up, running loose, and a store clerk had to  ask your mom if you belonged to her.
  •  Of course she did declare that you were hers - beyond a shadow of a doubt.
  •  Have you ever thought about how God declares us to be His kids, even when we act up?
  •  This song lets us declare to God that we want Him to declare us.

------------------------------------------

  • Did you know that GPS on your phone owes its thanks to a guy by the name of John Flamsteed?
  • He helped standardize navigation, using the stars - along with fixed points on the earth, (like the Prime Meridian) which separates the hemispheres.
  • Part of this (that) song says that God is the “Author of my hope, and maker of the stars.” When you hear that, think about this:
  • God gave knowledge to guys like John Flamsteed. Guys who realize we need fixed points in which our lives can revolve around.  God will also provide a fixed point for you to anchor your story around.

------------------------------------------

  • Whenever you hear a siren in the distance do you think about how someone’s story is being changed?
  • From the ambulance responding to the heart attack, or the officer to the accident, or the fireman to the fire, someone’s day is not going to go as planned.
  • Next time you hear a siren, say a prayer that God will write a positive outcome to the story that’s unfolding.  Pray that He will have a chapter that will comfort those involved.

------------------------------------------

  • If every heartbeat equaled a key being pressed on your computer, you’d have over 2 and a half billion characters pressed into words over your lifetime.
  • And since the average book has about 600 thousand letters and spaces in it, that equates to one life equalling almost 4200 books!
  • The real key is - who’s a better author?  You? Or the one who created the ones who created the letters and the computers?
  • How about letting Him have control to write a chapter today?

    Scripture References

    Hebrews 12:1-2 (NASB)

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

    ------------------------------------------

    Psalm 45:1

My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king;  my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.

    Your Own Experiences

What would be the major chapter headings of your life?  The moves you’ve made for a job?  The marriage?  The kids?  How did God do in writing your story as each of those chapters unfolded?

    —————————————————————

I just found out something new about my Bible lately.  You know those headings before each story?  The ones that say things like “Jesus feeds the five thousand” or “The fall of creation?”  Those are called pericopes (pa-ric-o-pees).  That word is very similar to the word “periscopes.”  Talk about a time in your life when you wish you had a spiritual periscope to peer up and see the big picture.

    —————————————————————

Talk about a time when you just had to let go, and say what Francesca says:  “My Life
I know it's never really been mine. So do with it whatever You like. I don't know what Your plan is but I know it's good.”
