Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

I'm tired
I'm worn
My heart is heavy
From the work it takes to keep on breathing

I've made mistakes
I've let my hope fail
My soul feels crushed
By the weight of this world
And I know that you can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart that's frail and torn

I want to know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that's dead inside can be reborn
Cause I'm worn

I know I need
To lift my eyes up
But I'm too weak
Life just won't let up
And I know that You can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart that's frail and torn

I want to know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that's dead inside can be reborn
Cause I'm worn

And my prayers are wearing thin
I'm worn even before the day begins
I'm worn  I've lost my will to fight
I'm worn so heaven come and flood my eyes

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart that's frail and torn

I want to know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that's dead inside can be reborn
Yes all that's dead inside will be reborn
Though I'm worn
Yeah I'm worn

TID-bits

  •  We get so emotionally drained because we are constantly focusing on our own problems.
  • So one way to help overcome that is by focusing on the needs of others.
  • A practical way to do that is to invite your listeners to your “prayer works” page if you have one.
  • When we pray for others needs, we find own needs feel lighter.

------------------------------------------

  • I heard a thought from Lysa TerKeurst, President of Proverbs 31 ministries, that was about comparison.
  • She said that we tend to look at how great and wonderful others are:   They’re skinnier, have more money, have a better decorated house, etc.
  • However, when we wish that we were like them we also have to remember that we would not be equipped to handle the struggles that they face.
  • It’s a package deal.
  • EVERYONE has good AND bad things about their lives.
  • If you’re feeling worn over your struggles, don’t focus on how good others have it, because in reality, they don’t.
  • In reality, they have different struggles that wear them out.   Struggles we couldn’t handle.

------------------------------------------

  • This is for the mom with grown children who keeps praying for God to deliver them from their bad choices.
  • This is for the dad who works three jobs to provide for his family, and it’s still not enough.
  • This is for the woman who’s marriage is on shaky ground because her husband won’t come home.
  • And this is for the man who sits up in the middle of the night, asking for a new way to cope in life, because he’s realized that the addictions leave him helpless and alone.
  • This song is for everyone who needs to know that they’re not alone in their struggles, and it helps us realize that Jesus is the glue that repairs those that are broken.

    2 Timothy 4:7-8

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.   Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day–and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

    Your Own Experiences

Mike Donehey tells how he was in an car accident that broke his back and ended all his involvement in sports.   It was at that point that he started playing guitar.   The rest is History, as they say.   Have you had a story like that?   One where life was incredibly difficult, but it was because of that struggle that you now are able to minister to others?

    ------------------------------------------

A book titled “The Rest of God” by Mark Buchanan challenges us to practice the sabbath.   One thing that impressed me in that book was that it said “sometimes the best thing we can do is take a nap.”   Think of this song in that way.   It’s message for you and your listeners may be that you need a rest period in life.   I think one of the best lines in this song is, “I know that you can give me rest.”   Point out that It’s OK to be worn, and to let that weariness draw you to God.

    ------------------------------------------

This is a song about life being unrelenting.   Chew on that thought, and see how you can turn it around.   Do the unrelenting struggles of life help you form an unrelenting pursuit of God?
