Taking It Deeper

I'm finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it's OK
The last thing I need is to be heard
But to hear what You would say
Word of God speak
Would You pour down like rain
Washing my eyes to see
Your majesty
To be still and know
That You're in this place
Please let me stay and rest
In Your holiness
Word of God speak
I'm finding myself in the midst of You
Beyond the music, beyond the noise
All that I need is to be with You
And in the quiet hear Your voice
(Chorus 2X)
I'm finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it's OK

Remember the last time you lost something you needed, and in that instance life couldn't go on? For instance, when a contact lens, or cell phone goes missing, everything kind of stops until it's found.

In Amos, Chapter 8, the Old Testament prophet was relaying a message from God saying that a famine is coming, but not one of food or water, but of "hearing the words of the Lord."  Verse 12 says "People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.

Can you imagine your Bible disappearing?  Probably so, because there are a number of Sundays that you needed it as you were heading out to church.   But can you imagine it REALLY disappearing?   No scripture to be found anywhere?   Hopefully that's a scary thought to you.

Fortunately, Bible's are easy to find today, and it's easier than ever to let it speak to you.  Go google what scripture has to say about your situation, and be thankful that God's Word is there.

  • I have found that when I do a "whole Bible in a year" reading plan that it's a lot like water skiing.  I just seem to skim over the surface.  It's almost like completing the plan takes precedence over soaking in the words.
  • It's great to have that overall view of scripture, but here's what I find:
  • Inevitably something will happen that will cause me to wipe out.   It's at those times that a single part of God's word will come through, holding me up like a life jacket when I'm in deep.
  • It's at that point that I hold on to that bite sized truth, or that one story of how a Bible character made it through.
  • What is a scripture that you have held on to?   What is one small section of verse that you could say "Yes, I had that Word of God Speak to me."
  • The Minister and Missionary Andrew Murray had this to say about the connection between God’s Word and prayer:
  • “Little of the Word with little prayer is death to the spiritual life.   Much of the Words with little prayer gives a sickly life.   Much prayer with little of the Word gives more life, but without steadfastness.   A full measure of the Word and prayer each day gives a healthy and powerful life.”
  • The Evangelist Leonard Ravenhill had this to say about our conventional thinking about the Word of God.   He said:
  • “We have adopted the convenient theory that the Bible is a Book to be explained, whereas first and foremost, it is a book to be believed (and after that to be obeyed)>”
  • Pastor and theologian Charles Spurgeon had this to say about the Word of God:
  • “Every promise of Scripture is a writing of God, which may be pleaded before Him with this reasonable request, ‘Do as Thou hast said!’   The Creator will not cheat the creature who depends upon His truth; and far more, the Heavenly Father will not break His Word to His own child.”

    Scripture References

    Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

    Romans 10:17

Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (KJV)

    Jeremiah 23:29

“Is not my word like fire,” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?

    Your Own Experiences

Have you ever had a time when you were searching, and you found just what you needed within the pages of scripture?  What do you need today, and where's the first place you're going to look?

Describe the last time you went into a meeting feeling totally unprepared, and all you could do was pray that God would give you the words to speak.   Did He?   Talk about how it requires faith to trust that He will come through for you.   E.M. Bounds says “Prayer projects faith on God, and God on the world.   Only God can move mountains, but faith and prayer move God.”

This song talks about the Word of God pouring down like rain.   That’s been my experience with it, how about yours?   Talk about a time when you needed an answer and you found one in the Bible.   Didn’t it give you a drenching of relief?   The kind that makes you say “Wow!”

One Response so far.

  1. My washing machine has an on/off button for the “end of cycle signal.” It’s an obnoxiously loud buzzer that sounds when the machine stops so you know to put them in the dryer. It also makes that sound if the load gets off balance, so no matter where you are in the house you hear this tone that tells you there’s a problem that needs to be addressed immediately. The Bible is that signal in our lives, letting us know when a change needs to be made to keep us on the proper course. And unlike the one on my washer, we need to make sure it stays in the on position to speak to us at all times.
