Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Sitting at the stoplight
He can't be bothered by the heart cry
Written on the cardboard in her hand
But when she looks him in the eye
His heart is broken open wide
And he feels the hand of God reach out through him
As Heaven touches earth

(Chorus)
Oh - we bring the Kingdom come
Oh - with every act of love
Jesus help us carry You
Alive in us, Your light shines through
With every act of love
We bring the Kingdom come

There's silence at the table
He wants to talk but he's not able
For all the shame that's locked him deep inside
But her words are the medicine
When she says they can begin again
And forgiveness will set him free tonight
As Heaven touches earth

(Chorus)

God put a million, million doors in the world
For his love to walk through
One of those doors is you
I said, God put a million, million doors in the world
For his love to walk through
One of those doors is you

(Chorus)

Oh - we bring the Kingdom come
Oh - with every act of love
Jesus help us carry You
Alive in us, Your light shines through
With every act of love
We bring the Kingdom come
With every act of love
We bring the Kingdom come
With every act of love
We bring the Kingdom come

TID-bits

  • Remember the giant warehouse of doors in the movie Monsters, Inc, and how each one of them led to a different place?
  • That’s what this (that) song reminds me of. However, as Jason Gray points out, each one of us is a different door.
  • Each one of us is a door that is able to bring others into that giant warehouse filled with God’s love.
  • It reminds me to pray that I will be a welcoming place - even if I am kind of messy right now, so that I can ultimately lead them to that door.
  • In fact, it’s probably my mess that appeals to them - the fact that I don’t have it all together.  People want to come to something comfortable, more than a sterile slipcover-on-the-chairs type of place.

  • We often feel incapable of talking to others about Jesus because we never know what they’re going to say, or what questions they might ask.
  • In reality, it’s OK to say “I don’t know the answer to that, but I’ll find out.”
  • What’s really needed is someone to show the love of Christ.  To be someone who reaches out to a hurting person, just to say “I’ll listen, I’ll feel this pain with you.”
  • Someone who shows an act of love.

  • I recently went on a trip, and I had to use a luggage scale to make sure my checked bag was less than 50 pounds.
  • It made me realize just how heavy the stuff of life is.
  • This (That) song talks about carrying Jesus, about carrying His light to others, and about how His forgiveness sets you free.
  • It’s like having a luggage cart.
  • You can placing the items that weigh you down on to Him.  He’s willing to manage the burden with you.

Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about having an internal struggle between holding all your problems in vs. needing to talk to someone about them.  Share one-on-one with a listener that perhaps God has been preparing someone to bring His kingdom of peace to them, and all they have to do is open up.

This is guaranteed to get calls:  Talk about what you feel when you see someone panhandling.
