Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

I'm waiting
I'm waiting on You, Lord
And I am hopeful
I'm waiting on You, Lord
Though it is painful
But patiently, I will wait

I will move ahead, bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience

(CHORUS)
While I'm waiting
I will serve You
While I'm waiting
I will worship
While I'm waiting
I will not faint
I'll be running the race
Even while I wait

I'm waiting
I'm waiting on You, Lord
And I am peaceful
I'm waiting on You, Lord
Though it's not easy, no
But faithfully, I will wait
Yes, I will wait

I will move ahead, bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience

(REPEAT CHORUS)
I will move ahead, bold and confident
I’ll be taking every step in obedience

I will serve You while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting
I will serve You while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting
I will serve you while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting on You, Lord

TID-bits

  • My friend was telling me of her in-law that she had invited to church.
  • She had told me stories of this person’s impatience before.
  • This was a church where they have a choir at 9:30 and a band at 11, and they have to “reset” the stage.
  • So at 11 when they opened the doors to the sanctuary to let people in, my friend was busy talking to someone, and a lot of people got in to their seats before they did.
  • This did not make the in-law happy.
  • Fortunately the sermon that day was on how “it is not about you”
  • Life should be lived about God.
  • That’s what this song is about...

-----------------------------------

  • You know how kids whine “Are we there yet?”   Do you know how that came about?
  • I think it was first uttered after church one Sunday shortly after the first automobile and the first restaurant came about.
  • We whine when we’re hungry and we have to wait.
  • This (That) song is about having a hunger for God.
  • And He will satisfy you if the car ride is lasting too long.

-----------------------------------

  • In these days when our phones can show us our precise location, it’s tough to find anyplace that’s truly “a wilderness.”
  • In fact I think the only true wilderness left is the Spiritual Wilderness we sometimes find ourselves in.
  • Those places where we feel lost and without direction.
  • It’s those places where God lets us wander until we find what we really need - Him.
  • It’s in those times that we need to keep moving ahead - taking every step bold and confident.
  • Knowing that once we find Him, He will lead us where we need to go.

----------------------------------

  • Deuteronomy 4 finds Moses giving direction to the children of Israel who are about to enter the promised land, the land of milk and honey.
  • He basically says to “obey God’s commands and you will live and be blessed, and others will know that God is the one true God.”
  • This (That) song all comes down to the lyric that says: “I will move ahead, bold and confident, taking every step in obedience.”
  • If you’re waiting to move from a place of hardship and grief to a place of milk and honey, then the best thing to do is to serve God in obedience.
  • It will get you through.

    Your Own Experiences

Describe a time when you had to wait on God.   Talk about how long you had to wait, how silent He seemed, and how it seems so insignificant now that it’s all passed.

    -----------------------------------

Discuss ways that you can still serve God even if you’re waiting for Him to reveal what your purpose is.   Ways like:   Helping to feed and clothe others, helping in the nursery at church, taking care of an elderly person’s lawn or meals.   Maybe even setting aside time each day to just pray for people.   You might find what God wants you to do just by doing something.

    -----------------------------------

Talk about how impatient you get waiting for your wife or daughter (or husband or son) to get ready.   Then compare it to God who never gets impatient waiting for us to get our act together.

    -----------------------------------

Talk about your memories of the movie “fireproof” and how this song was the soundtrack for the husband in the movie who served with wife with an unconditional love.   Is there an instance like that in your life?
