Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Sometimes it feels like I'm watching from the outside

Sometimes it feels like I'm breathing but am I alive

I will keep searching for answers that aren't here to find

All I know is I'm not home yet

This is not where I belong

Take this world and give me Jesus

This is not where I belong

So when the walls come falling down on me

And when I'm lost in the current of a raging sea

I have this blessed assurance holding me.

All I know is I'm not home yet

This is not where I belong

Take this world and give me Jesus

This is not where I belong

When the earth shakes I wanna be found in You

When the lights fade I wanna be found in You

All I know is I'm not home yet

This is not where I belong

Take this world and give me Jesus

This is not where I belong

All I know is I'm not home yet

This is not where I belong

Take this world and give me Jesus

This is not where I belong

Where I belong, where I belong

Where I belong, where I belong

TID-bits

  •  Jason Roy of Building 429 has this to say about the song:
  • He says there’s a Question mark of “Where is God now” when big things happen, like disasters.
  • Things like that remind us that something is wrong.
  • That this is not our home.
  • The reality is because sin broke our relationship with our creator that it feels like there is something missing.
  • However, the cross made us righteous to be with God.
  • And that makes us long for a place of peace and a place called home - His home.

---------------------------------------

  • Remember a good time you had at home?
  • A time around the table, where the hours just passed by in an instant.
  • When you spend time with people you enjoy, time doesn’t seem to matter.
  • Those who know Jesus have a home like that where the good times are waiting.

---------------------------------------

  • You’ll often see a younger kid watching their older sibling doing something they wish they could do...
  • Something like standing on the other side of the fence while big brother plays T-Ball.
  • We often long for the other side of the fence.
  • The place where the grass is greener.
  • The place where the pain is gone
  • The place where we don’t have to worry anymore.
  • That is what your true home is truly like.

---------------------------------------

  • There are times in life where you don’t watch the clock.
  • Times of joy,
  • Times shared with friends.
  • Next time you experience that, remember this (that) song...
  • And remember that there is a place where that kind of time is eternal.

---------------------------------------

  • It’s nice to go on vacation
  • But halfway through we usually start wanting to be back home.
  • If you know Jesus, just remember that you’re currently living “on vacation”
  • And you’ll ultimately come home.
  • Only in this case, home will have all the joy of vacation and none of the housework of home.

  • Steve Jobs said:
  • No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.
  • That would make this song an anthem for those who aren’t afraid of the ultimate change that comes from our ultimate home.

---------------------------------------

  • The band says that the record that this song comes from has as its main theme:  "Home."
  • That nothing in this world measures up, nothing is ever enough, and no matter what we achieve we always find ourselves wanting more.
  • They say "this life is hard and it will always be hard because we were designed not for what we want, but for the pleasure of God.
  • They also say that this record does not hide the heartache and chaos in this life, but rather it embraces it and says in response that "we know who has overcome  this, and we know that there is a better day coming."

---------------------------------------

  •  Jason Roy of Building 429 says that this is his favorite song on the record.
  •  He says "It's a song that I can sing with conviction every single night, no matter where I am and no matter what stage I may be on. And I think that the guys in the band can sing it with conviction as well."
  •  He also says "it's the kind of tune where we can literally stop singing and even stop playing, and people still carry it. That's a pretty cool thing to be a part of."

ROBIN ROBINSON FROM WHIF SUBMITTED THIS STORY:

You’re Not Home Yet

  • An old missionary couple had been working in Africa for years, and they were returning to New York City to retire. They discovered they were booked on the same ship as President Teddy Roosevelt, who was returning from one of his big-game hunting expeditions.
  • No one paid much attention to them.
  • When the ship docked in New York, a big brass band, the mayor and other dignitaries greeted the President.
  • However no one noticed the missionary couple.
  • That night, the man’s spirit broke. He said to his wife, "I can’t take this; God is not treating us fairly."
  • His wife replied, "Why don’t you go into the bedroom and tell that to the Lord?"
  • A short time later he came out from the bedroom, but now his face was completely different. His wife asked, "Dear, what happened?"
  • "The Lord settled it with me," he said. "I told him how bitter I was that the President should receive this tremendous homecoming, when no one met us as we returned home"
  • However as I finished praying, it seemed as though the Lord put his hand on my shoulder and simply said, ‘
  • ...But you’re not home yet!’"

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about when you were on a trip and how you got tired of living out of a suitcase.   Compare that to life on earth, and how you get worn down by the troubles here.   Finish by mentioning that it’s natural to feel that way if you’re a Christ follower, because this earth is not our real home - heaven is.

    ---------------------------------------

Take whatever sport season we’re in - football, basketball, baseball, soccer - and talk about how it’s all about battling to get to a goal.   So is life.   We’re reaching for the goal of our heavenly home, but we have to battle through our days on earth first.   So it’s natural to want to be out of the battle, and to want to be in the comforts of home

    ---------------------------------------

Talk about meeting your future in-laws for the first time.   About how the way they did things was not the way that your family did things.   However, over time, and because of the love you have for your spouse, your in-laws home became more comfortable.   Compare that to feeling like, as the years roll on, that heaven becomes more and more like the place you belong.

One Response so far.

  1. Jeff Evans says:

Baseball players know there is a “sweet spot” on the bat. Golfers know there is a “sweet spot” on the head of the gold club. It’s the spot where you want to try to make connection with the ball so you get the best results.

Are you living in in your “sweet spot” right now? Here’s a song that can help you find your way back there…
