Taking It Deeper

It's time for healing, time to move on,
it's time to fix what's been broken too long
Time to make right what has been wrong;
it's time to find my way to where I belong
There's a wave that's crashing over me, and all I can do is surrender
Whatever You're doing inside of me
It feels like chaos, but somehow there's peace
And it's hard to surrender to what I can't see, but I'm giving in to something heavenly
Time for a milestone, time to begin again, re-evaluate who I really am
Am I doing everything to follow Your will or just climbing aimlessly over these hills?
So show me what it is You want from me
I give everything — I surrender
(Repeat Chorus)
Time to face up, clean this old house
Time to breathe in and let everything out that I've wanted to say for so many years
Time to release all my held back tears
Whatever You're doing inside of me
It feels like chaos, but I believe …
You're up to something bigger than me
Larger than life, something heavenly
Whatever You're doing inside of me
It feels like chaos, but now I can see
This is something bigger than me
Larger than life
Something heavenly, something heavenly
Time to face up, clean this old house
Time to breathe in and let everything out

This song was one that God kept putting first and foremost in the minds of both me and my wife when we felt God moving us to a new challenge.   We had lived in the same town for 16 years, and then a big change came.   You can always tie this song into “big life changes.”

  • Have you ever had to carry a large heavy box all by yourself?
  • You know that feeling of “whew” once you put it down?
  • This is a “whew” kind of song.

  • Surrender and resistance are two sides of the same coin.
  • Most of the time we’re flipping for the best two out of three, hoping that resistance shows up.
  • Because, face it, we’re stubborn, we like to resist what’s best for us.
  • Paul said that in the book of Romans when he said “I do... what I do not want to do”
  • May I suggest you try the other side of the coin?
  • And take a positive action by surrendering what is troubling you to Jesus.

  • Remember the teachers who would give you the answers to the test before you would take it?
  • Why can’t life be like that, with it’s one major test after another?
  • Maybe you’re not finding the answer to something right now, because you need to spend time talking to the teacher instead.
  • That’s what it means when this song says:   “show me what it is You want from me .  I give everything — I surrender.”

  • This (That) song reminds me of Luke 23:46 where Jesus said His last words “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit”   After which He breathed His last breath on the cross.
  • It seems that whenever we are called to do something great for God, we first have to surrender.
  • Maybe it’s time for you to let out that deep breath.

  • I have a friend who scuba dives.
  • One thing they teach you is to NOT hold your breath.
  • If you did, the the compressed air from your tanks combined with the change in water pressure could cause your lungs to burst.
  • That lesson goes along with this song.   If you continually hold on to what is troubling you, something is going to pop, and it probably won’t be good.
  • It’s time to breathe in and let everything out.

    Scripture References

    Romans 12:1-2

Therefore, I urge you,   brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices,   holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual   act of worship.   Do not conform   any longer to the pattern of this world,   but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.   Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is   –his good, pleasing   and perfect will.

    Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me,   all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.   Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,   for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.   For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

    John 5:20

For the Father loves the Son   and shows him all he does. Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these.

    John 20:26-29

A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said,   “Peace   be with you!”   Then he said to Thomas,   “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

Then Jesus told him,   “Because you have seen me, you have believed;   blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
