Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

This world has nothing for me
This life is not my own
I know you go before me
And I am not alone
This mountain rises higher
This way seems so unclear
But I know that you go with me
I will trust in you

Whatever will come my way
Through fire or pouring rain
We won't be shaken
No we won't be shaken
Whatever tomorrow brings
Together we'll rise and sing
That we won't be shaken
Oooh Oh Oh
Oooh Oh Oh
Oooh Oh Oh
No we won't be shaken

You know my every longing
You've heard my every prayer
You've held me in my weakness
Cause you are always there
So I'll stand in full surrender
It's your way and not my own
My mind is set on nothing less
Than you and you alone
I will not be moved oh

Whatever will come my way
Through fire or pouring rain
We won't be shaken
No we won't be shaken
Whatever tomorrow brings
Together we'll rise and sing
That we won't be shaken

(3x)
We will trust in you
We will not be moved
We will trust in you

TID-bits

This is a song about trusting God to come through, even through all our uncertainties.   So any uncertain situation can be met head on with this song.   Here’s a list of examples:

-- “Is that co-worker talking about me unfavorably behind my back?”
-- “Are my kids going to turn out alright?”
-- “What’s that funny noise my car is making?”
-- “They just let someone go in my division.   Is my job secure?”
-- “My roof is leaking.   Great!   Is that going to be a major repair?”
-- “My spouse seems depressed, and isn’t talking to me.   I wonder what’s up.”

Thoughts like those should drive us to continual prayer, and continual prayer is the tool we use to leave our uncertainties with God.   The second verse of this song says it best:

You know my every longing
You've heard my every prayer
You've held me in my weakness
Cause you are always there
So I'll stand in full surrender
It's your way and not my own
My mind is set on nothing less
Than you and you alone
I will not be moved

The bottom line:   Take your uncertainties, pray about them, and surrender them to God.   Use them to focus more on Him.   When you do, He helps you stand strong and secure.

Here's what lead singer Jason Roy has to say about this song:

"We wanted We Won't Be Shaken to continue the message that while we're here, and what we do with the time we have before we go to our ultimate home, we stand for what we believe. We need to remember that He alone is our rock and our salvation. He is our fortress where we will never be shaken."

  •  Sometimes we seem to be under attack.
  • The Bible says that there is one who does that - His name is Satan, He is the evil one, the devil.
  • When he seems to be rocking your world, it’s good to remember “2,2,2.”   2 Thessalonians 2, verse 2, which says:
  • “Not to be quickly shaken in mind or by a spirit or a spoken word” by a man of lawlessness who is under the activity of Satan.
  • It says that Jesus will take care of that problem.
  • Jesus will calm your attack and whatever has you shaking today.

-----------------------------------------

  • It’s widely known that caffeine can give you jitters, and to get rid of them it’s suggested that you eat some bread and drink some water.
  • That’s good advice for anyone who’s feeling shaken in life.
  • Take in the one who the Bible says is the bread of life, and the living water - Jesus.

-----------------------------------------

  • The paint store has all these base colors of paint.
  • And when you mix the white base with just the right amount of yellow base and brown base you end up with colors like Cork, Straw, and Desert Sunrise.
  • When we take our life, and accept Jesus into it, His color mixes with ours - and from that point, no amount of shaking can separate us from Him.
  • In fact, when a life that has Jesus in it does get shaken up, it’s like paint, the color gets even more mixed in.

-----------------------------------------

  • Have you ever had a mold made of your teeth?
  • The dental hygenist first puts the mold making stuff into a little rubber cup, and then adds water to it, stirs and mixes it up, scrapes it into a tray and then pushes it onto your teeth.
  • It then hardens into a casting of your mouth..
  • Life is like that.   It is a mixture of stuff that wants to stir us up all the time.   Stuff like unexpected bills, unexpected trials, unexpected brokenness.
  • But a life shared with Jesus is a life that becomes molded to Him.   He helps us to become hardened to withstand the stuff that wants to shake us.

-----------------------------------------

  • When things are left unattended, they weaken.
  • For instance, my friend had a 20 year old fence that recently blew over.
  • He never sealed it, supported it, replaced pickets, or treated it to keep from rotting at the base.
  • It’s the same with our relationship with God.
  • Even though our relationship with Him never fails, If we don’t nurture it by spending time with Him, and growing with Him, then we’ll forget how strong we actually when the  winds of life want to shake us.

    Scripture References

    Jeremiah 17:7-8

“But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.

He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

    -----------------------------------------

    1 Peter 5:7

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

    -----------------------------------------

    Matthew 17:20

He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about riding a roller coaster and how it shakes you around.   However, a roller coaster rides on rails so it has a destination firmly established.   Compare that to a life lived with Christ.   You may get shaken, but He provides the direction to get through it.

    -----------------------------------------

Talk about a painful day in your life.   You don’t necessarily have to spell out all the details, just make the point that you got through it.   See, we are able to make it through any given moment, it’s our worrying about tomorrow that often paralyzes us.   Take a look again at the chorus of this song.   Share with the listener that its words give us what we need at any given moment to go into tomorrow.

    -----------------------------------------

In the first verse it sings about God going before us.   Paint a word picture of a person standing behind God, and how God is willing to protect and defend us against the winds of turmoil that want to shake us.
