Taking It Deeper

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of faith it takes to climb out of this boat I'm in
On to the crashing waves

To step out of my comfort zone

Into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is

And He's holding out His hand

But the waves are calling out my name and they laugh at me

Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again, "Boy, You'll never win!"
"You'll never win!"

But the Voice of Truth tells me a different story

The Voice of Truth says, "Do not be afraid!"

And the Voice of Truth says, "This is for My glory"

Out of all the voices calling out to me

I will choose to listen and believe

The Voice of Truth

Oh what I would do to have

The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant

With just a sling and a stone

Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors

Shaking in their armor

Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out my name and he laughs at me

Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed

The giant keeps on telling me

Time and time again, "Boy, You'll never win!"

"You'll never win!"

But the stone was just the right size

To put the giant on the ground

And the waves they don't seem so high

From on top of them lookin' down

I will soar with the wings of eagles

When I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus

Singing over me

I will listen and believe

I will listen and believe

The Voice of Truth

  • My friend was telling me about a tradition they do with her son’s football team.
  • After the first practice of the season, they supply watermelon to all the boys.
  • She had grabbed a big plastic bucket to carry numerous watermelon in.
  • Unfortunately, it cracked.
  • Still, she scooped her arms around it and was able to use it to bring some refreshment.
  • The Bible says that we are like that bucket -that we are weak vessels, but God still uses us.
  • Maybe it’s because He’s able to use us best when He’s got His arms wrapped around us.

  • Have you ever had to repeat the company line, even though you didn’t want to?
  • Maybe it was something you didn’t agree with, but it wasn’t immoral.
  • Well, there is someone who thinks he’s the boss, and he gives you this bogus company line all the time.
  • The devil tells you all kinds of lies about yourself, and he expects you to repeat them.
  • but in this instance, you can go up the chain of command.
  • You can go straight to God Himself to get the real truth.

  • Do you know what causes ministry not to get done?
  • It’s not people with inexperience.   It’s not people who are unwilling.
  • It’s people who are afraid.
  • The Bible is full of stories from people like Abraham, Isaac, Joseph, David, Job, Ruth, Nehemiah, the Disciples, Peter, Paul, Mary, and many others who overcame their fears and changed the world.
  • Your name can be added to that list, too.

  • A lot of times we let fear knot us all up into a big ol’ ball of inaction.
  • Maybe you hear a bad report, and you just want to sit and abandon your big plans.
  • I’ve noticed that when God has called us to do something, our life tends to get a bit unraveled.
  • He has to loosen up that “fear knot - K.N.O.T.”
  • And He does it by telling us to “fear NOT - N.O.T.”

  • Romans 12:2 is the antidote to a life drugged by fear.
  • It tells us to not conform to the world, but to renew our mind with God’s Word.
  • The world will always tell you that you don’t measure up.
  • But God’s Word will always tell you that you are greatly loved, that you are the object of His affection, and that He’s thinking of you and has plans for you.
  • Begin by reading Romans 12:2  "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is –his good, pleasing and perfect will."
  • Mention that the world is going to beat us down, so we need to let our minds be renewed.
  • Finish with "this is the song that does that renewing..."

  • This (That) song is like most shows my child (or-my friend’s child) watches on the Disney channel.
  • Usually there’s some school girl who just doesn’t measure up.
  • And there’s usually some other girl who makes life miserable for her.
  • And there’s some boy who thinks she’s cool just the way she is.
  • And by the end of the half hour she’s come to realize that she is indeed wonderful.
  • We’re bombarded by these kind of stories from a young age.
  • It’s because these stories come from an ancient truth.
  • And it’s time to believe them again...

    Your Own Experiences

There was probably a time in your life when God said “go” and you said “no.”   Talk about how He had to change your mind by building you up using His truth about you.

Have you ever had to strengthen and encourage your child by reminding them of all their positive traits?   Relate to your listeners that God does the same for them.

What is a Bible verse that you turn to time and time again when you are needing to hear that you are not a failure.

One Response so far.

Which voice are you listening to today? Much of the time we respond to the ones screaming the loudest!! What about that still small voice?
