  •  That song says “it might not be the stuff I choose, but this is the stuff you use.”
  • I think we feel discontent when we try to focus on where we want God to bless us, instead of where He’s decided to bless us.
  • For instance, you may want to be blessed financially, but He’s decided to bless you with relationships right now.
  • Or, You may be in an administrative position right now, wishing He’d bless you with a   creative job.
  • I encourage you to hang on, because it’s in the journey that we get blessed.
  • I remember what Jacob did in the Bible.   He wrestled with God, but he hung on, he wouldn’t let go.
  • He said “I will not let go until you bless me.”
  • He hung on through the stuff.

  • We DJ’s have what’s called the “DJ Dream.”
  • It’s an actual dream when we’re asleep, and in the dream, nothing is working right.
  • We can’t get the music to play, we’re stressing over what to say.   We can’t find our notes.   There’s dead air, and we’re trying to figure out which button to push.
  • Usually the dream comes when there’s too much stress and stuff going on in our lives.
  • Do you have a dream like that?
  • Usually, it’s only fixed by waking up, and starting over in your sleep.
  • Stressful stuff needs a break.

  •   Or the loss of a job.
  •   Or any number of big things that deal with a loss of normalcy.
  •   Would it comfort you to know that it all falls under the category of “stuff that God can take care of?”
  •   He specializes in restoring things that are lost.

  •   In 1 Kings 19 the prophet Elijah just had just won His equivalent of the Super Bowl with a dramatic victory over the opposition.
  •   So where is he?
  •   Sitting under a tree.   Depressed.   Wishing God would take his life.
  •   God didn’t, fortunately.
  •   It was just a case of the pressure of life getting to him.
  •   Kind of like this (that) song.
  •   The stuff just grinds at you.
  •   Which is why my favorite part is when she says
  •   “It’s not the end of the world.”

    Here’s a verse for when we forget how big we’re blessed:

    Ephesians 3:17-19  

    ...And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,   and to know this love that surpasses knowledge –that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

    Stuff happens for a reason.   Maybe the red light that shows up at the worst possible time is to keep you from an accident later.   Here’s a scripture verse from Joseph that illustrates that:

    Genesis 45:5  

    And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.
