Taking It Deeper

This might hurt, it's not safe
But I know that I've gotta make a change
I don't care if I break,
At least I'll be feeling something

'Cause just okay is not enough

Help me fight through the nothingness of life

I don't wanna go through the motions
I don't wanna go one more day
without Your all consuming passion inside of me
I don't wanna spend my whole life asking,
"What if I had given everything,
instead of going through the motions?"

No regrets, not this time

I'm gonna let my heart defeat my mind

Let Your love make me whole

I think I'm finally feeling something
'Cause just okay is not enough
Help me fight through the nothingness of this life

take me all the way (take me all the way)
take me all the way ('cause I don't wanna go through the motions)
take me all the way (I know I'm finally feeling something real)
take me all the way

I don't wanna go through the motions

  • Talk about changing. Pick a topic like your weight, your television viewing habits, exercise, whatever.   Mention that we all have something we want to change.
  • Mention that “Wanting to do, and DOING, are two different things.”
  • Finish with “this is a song for those who are trying to move from wanting to do and doing.

  • There’s an old saying that goes something like:   “One hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, how big my house was, or what kind of car I drove. But the world may be a little better, because I was important in the life of a child."
  • It was written by Forest E. Witcraft, who was a Boy Scout administrator
  • Compare that to how we all desire to leave a legacy, and to make a difference.
  • Finish with this:   “That’s why we’re here.   We’re the only place that talks about things that will last forever.”

  • My friend had taken his wife and son back to his hometown to celebrate his son’s 1 year birthday at his mom’s house.
  • While they were there, he went out to the cemetery to visit his father’s gravesite.
  • He was also paying respects to his grandpa when he noticed the birthdate.
  • He was standing on his grandfather’s grave on what would have been his 100th birthday!
  • No one in his family knew!
  • It humbled my friend to know that it was quite possible that when his 100th birthday came around, no one would know, not even his closest family.
  • It made him want to change his life...

    Scripture References

    Psalm 139:16

your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

    Isaiah 6:8

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? ” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

    Mark 10:21-23

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about something you’ve done lately that made a difference in someone else’s life.   Talk about the sacrifice it took to do that.   Gently encourage the listener that if they are going to make a difference that they are going to have to sacrifice, but that the sacrifice is definitely worth it.

Talk about an all consuming passion that is inside of you.   Maybe ask for listener stories about the passion that God has put inside of them.

There’s a great line in this song that says “I’m gonna let my heart defeat my mind.”   Our hearts tell us to do something, but our minds rationalize it away.   Talk about a time when your heart won out, and you became better for it.

I combined the top two into one break, it worked out great! One of the things I LOVE about Taking It Deeper is the ability to use the ‘bits’ for more than just one song too. I used this info for Mandisa’s latest ‘Waiting For Tomorrow’. It worked out great.
