Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Hey, heard you were up all night
Thinking about how your world ain't right
And you wonder if things will ever get better
And you're asking why is it always raining on you
When all you want is just a little good news
Instead of standing there stuck out in the weather

Oh, don't hang your head
It's gonna end
God's right there
Even if it's hard to see Him
I promise you that He still cares

(CHORUS)
When the waves are taking you under
Hold on just a little bit longer
He knows that this is gonna make you stronger, stronger
The pain ain't gonna last forever
And things can only get better
Believe me
This is gonna make you stronger
Gonna make you stronger, stronger, stronger
Believe me, this is gonna make you ...

Try and do the best you can
Hold on and let Him hold your hand
And go on and fall into the arms of Jesus
Oh, lift your head it's gonna end
God's right there
Even when you just can't feel Him
I promise you that He still cares

(REPEAT CHORUS)

'Cause if He started this work in your life
He will be faithful to complete it
If only you believe it
He knows how much it hurts
And I'm sure that He's gonna help you get through this

When the waves are taking you under
Hold on just a little bit longer
He knows that this is gonna make you stronger, stronger
The pain ain't gonna last forever
In time it's gonna get better
Believe me
This is gonna make you stronger

TID-bits

  • Joni Eareckson Tada is a famous Christian Author and Speaker who is a quadliplegic - paralyzed from the shoulders down after a diving accident as a teenager.
  • One time, during a break in a speaking engagement, some women asked her “how do you do it”   - how do you always look “so together, so happy and joyful” in her wheelchair.
  • Her response was:   “I don’t do it”
  • She went on to explain, that her husband leaves for work at 6am.   Then a friend comes at 7 to get her up, bathe her, get her dressed, set her up in her chair, brush her hair and teeth, and send her out the door.
  • She says she doesn’t have the strength to face that routine day after day, she doesn’t have a smile to take into the day.
  • But then she adds:   “God does.”   Every day she prays “God, give me your smile. I need you desperately.”

  • Some people say Thomas Edison had to try over a 1000 times to perfect the light bulb.   Some say over 10,000.   Whatever it was - it was a lot.
  • One of Edison’s greatest quotes was:   “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”
  • I hope this song is a light bulb moment for you - one that gives you the strength to keep going just one more time.

  • It’s been said that a football player who trips while running has been a “victim of self tackle-ization.”
  • We have that same condition, getting all depressed and tripping up in self-pity when we’re running our daily lives.
  • God, however, is always there to pick you back up, and as Mandisa says in this (that) song, if you’re going to fall, fall into the arms of Jesus...

------------------------------

  • There are times when our troubles wake us up at night, when we find ourselves panicky about our marriage, our kids, our finances, our health.
  • These are some of the best times to pray.
  • Maybe it’s because the night is still, and you can hear the voice of God telling you that He has a hold on you.

------------------------------

  • The reason why lifting weights work, is because every time you work out, you’re tearing your muscle fibers, and when they grow back - if you have the proper nutrition - they grow back stronger.
  • What works physically, works spiritually too.   The struggles in life are like muscle tears - they help you grow stronger.
  • Plus, don’t forget to have the proper spiritual nutrition - praying and reading your Bible - those will help you grow stronger too.

  • The Moffat Tunnel in Colorado is an 6 mile tunnel that goes under the Continental Divide.
  • If you were to stand at one entrance, all you would see is pitch black, you can’t see the exit.
  • When a train enters the tunnel, traveling at 60 miles an hour, all you see is a little pin-prick of light for multiple minutes.
  • It’s not until the last 20 seconds or so that you hear the rumble of the train.
  • That’s what it’s like when we feel we’re in the dark.   God’s light is there with us, but it may seem like there’s little movement.
  • However, when the time is right, stand clear, because He’s going to come through powerfully.
