Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

You must, You must think I’m strong
To give me what I’m going through
Well forgive me, forgive me if I’m wrong
But this looks like more than I can do
On my own

I know I’m not strong enough to be

Everything that I’m supposed to be
I give up, I’m not strong enough
Hands of mercy won’t You cover me?
Lord, right now I’m asking You to be
Strong enough, strong enough
For the both of us

Well maybe, maybe that’s the point

To reach the point of giving up
‘Cause when I’m finally, finally at rock bottom
Well that’s when I start looking up
And reaching out

‘Cause I’m broken

Down to nothing
But I’m still holding on to the one thing

You are God
And You are strong when I am weak

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength
And I don’t have to be strong enough

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength
And I don’t have to be
Strong enough, strong enough

  • I Just read a great devo from Chuck Swindoll called "God Shows Himself Strong".
  • He talks about how we often look longingly at the past, thinking our lives were so much simpler and more comfortable than today.  But in a year from now we'll probably be looking back to today and thinking the same thing!!  He encourages us to live in the present because God continues to show Himself strong all along the way.

  • We’re all mountain climbers.
  • We all have things in our lives that we must climb over.
  • God supplies the rope, the anchors, and all we need for the climb, though.
  • We just have to do the climbing.
  • You will get over that mountain.

  • John 15:1 - 2 says “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.   He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
  • your troubles today may just be because God is pruning you.
  • your struggles may be to make you stronger, so that you may ultimately be more fruitful.

  • Ever been on a spinning carnival ride?
  • One where the centrifugal force pushes you into your seat?
  • It’s an unsettling feeling - it feels secure, yet out of control at the same time.
  • It’s just like God, who holds you in place while all the world is crazily spinning around you.
  • This is a song for when you feel like things are out of control.

------------------------------

  • This song reminds me of what I learned in science class.   Remember learning about pulleys and levers, and how these simple tools help us lift big weights?
  • God is the pulley and lever for the big emotional weight you’re trying to lift.
  • Let Him do the work.

-----------------------------

  • Remember how the Statue of Liberty became a symbol of hope to all the immigrants who were arriving in America searching for a better life?
  • What is your “statue?”   What is something that you can gaze up at to know that God is there to get you to a better life?
  • Might I suggest you keep looking up at Phillippians 4:13:   “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”

----------------------------

  • This is the song for a praying parent, who’s up in the middle of the night.
  • This is the song for a distraught wife, wondering where her husband is in the middle of the night.
  • This is the song for the worried spouse, sleeping in a chair next to the hospital bed in the middle of the night.
  • This is the song for anyone, who’s feeling like they are going through a deep dark night.
SCRIPTURE REFERENCES

Phillippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

-----------------------------------

John 15:1-4

I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.   He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.   You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.   Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

-----------------------------------

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. ” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
