Taking It Deeper

Another cold night
Another late flight
It's almost show time
And Diverse City's waitin' on me
We got a packed house
The crowd is callin' out
They want the beat to drop
But what we really need is You
If You wanna steal my show
I'll sit back and watch You go
If You got somethin' to say
Go on and take it away
Need You to steal my show
Can't wait to watch You go, oh, oh
So take it away
So now the crowd is hype
That you showed up tonight
Anticipatin' cravin' somethin' more than smoke and lights
So I'll step out the way
I'll give You center stage
Give 'em what they came for ...
When You arrive, we come to life
Our hearts collide, they're beating in the same time
You're comin' through
All eyes on You
Our hearts collide
They're beating in the same time
Beating in the same time
No matter who we are
No matter what we do
Every day we can choose to say ...
My life
My plans
My heart
It's all Yours, God
Take it away
My dreams
My fears
My family
My career
Take it away
Take it away
It's all Yours, God
So take it away
Take it away
It's You I wanna live for

  • Are you a list maker?
  • Would you say that your list always gets accomplished?
  • What happens when it doesn’t?   Do you get irritated by that?
  • A way to look at your interruptions is to realize that they may be ways that God is using you to touch other’s lives.

  • Have you ever heard the expression “phoning it in?”
  • It’s where someone shows up, and just does the basics.
  • This (That) song is the opposite of phoning it in.
  • It talks about God showing up
  • Because when hearts are involved, and changing them is required, you can’t just phone that in.

  • Bad grades, bully problems, teasing, rejection.
  • These are just a few of the things that parents have to help our kids with.
  • They are things that cause us to stop what we’re doing, so that we can immediately comfort and confront the problem.
  • It’s like this (that) song.   We have an issue, and God stops the show to come to our rescue.

    Scripture References

    Proverbs 16:9

In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.

    Isaiah 30:21

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."

    Isaiah 55:8-9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.   As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

    Your Own Experiences

What’s something in your life that’s been difficult to let go of?   Talk about how you’re trying to let God take it over.

Is it hard to trust in the wisdom of another?   Do you find yourself occasionally questioning the decision of a boss for instance?   Talk about how mistrust in authority can be solved, by trusting in a God who always has “plans for our good” like it says in Jeremiah 29:11.

Think about a character in a movie that really “stole the show.”   Mention that we can be drawn to ones who draw attention to themselves in that way.   Then compare that to how we are actually drawn to God when He steals the show.
