Taking It Deeper

This world can be cold and bitter

Feels like we're in the dead of winter

Waiting on something better

But am I really gonna hide forever?

Over and over again

I hear Your voice in my head

Let Your light shine, let Your light shine for all to see

Start a fire in my soul

Fan the flame and make it grow

So there's no doubt or denying

Let it burn so brightly

That everyone around can see

That it's You, that it's You that we need

Start a fire in me

You only need a spark to start a whole blaze

It only takes a little faith

Let it start right here in this city

So these old walls will never be the same

Over and over again

I hear Your voice in my head

They need to know

I need to go

Spirit wont you fall on my heart now

You are the fire You are the flame

You are the light on the darkest day

We have the hope we bear Your name

We carry the news that You have come to save

Only You can save

  • Have you heard that being a Christian is boring, that somehow being a Christian takes away all the fun things in life?
  • It's not true.
  • Think of it like this:  Have you seen those suits that look like a flying squirrel? The suits with a parachute that people who jump off of mountains wear?
  • That's what being a follower of Jesus is like.
  • The suit may have some restrictions when you walk, but they are there so that ultimately you can fly.
  • And this song is about letting others see that suit, and about the joy they find when you jump.

  • Remember Olaf the snowman in the movie  "Frozen?" He wanted to experience warmth.
  • I think we're all on Olaf's journey.
  • Think about it, none of us want to be cold and alone. We don't want to be bored, or stalled, or frozen in our tracks.
  • So when Jesus comes along, and He says those three words: "Come, follow me," we see something warm and inviting.
  • Those words cause us to start a journey toward warmth.
  • A journey that offers peace and contentment - a journey that others see and are drawn to, because they want that warmth too.
  • It started for 12 disciples and has spread to over 2 billion people.
  • Is that journey burning in you today?

  • I saw this book called "The Invisibles" by David Zweig at the bookstore.
  • It's about the joy of doing unseen work in this age of endless self promotion.
  • Specifically it's about people who do work and aren't noticed unless something goes wrong.
  • It's about people who hold positions out of the limelight, but if they weren't there, everything would fall apart.
  • It reminds me of this (that) song.
  • Are you one who can stand back and silently do your work and be encouraged when God gets the credit?

  • There's a book called  "131 Christians everyone should know."
  • Frankly, there are a lot of folks in there that I haven't heard of.
  • What they all had in common was a desire to follow and share Jesus.
  • You know, you may be someone who will never be written about in a book, but you still have influence just like these people did.
  • Just live your life for Jesus.

    Your Own Experiences

This is the song to play if you ever need to make a comment about evil - perhaps out of a news story, or maybe around halloween.

Talk about a ministry in your community that is showing God's love to others and play this song coming out of it.

Talk about a time when you encouraged someone, or someone encouraged you.  How were you or they a light to each other?

Talk about a time in your life when you exercised a little bit of faith and you saw it grow.
