Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Some days, life feels perfect.
Other days it just ain't workin.
The good, the bad, the right, the wrong
And everything in between.

Though it's crazy, amazing
We can turn a heart with the words we say.
Mountains crumble with every syllable.
Hope can live or die

So speak Life, speak Life.
To the deadest darkest night.
Speak life, speak Life.
When the sun won't shine and you don't know why.
Look into the eyes of the brokenhearted;
Watch them come alive as soon as you speak hope,
You speak love, you speak...
You speak Life, (oh oh oh oh oh oh) You speak Life. (oh oh oh oh oh oh)

Some days the tongue gets twisted;
Other days my thoughts just fall apart.
I do, I don't, I will, I won't,
It's like I'm drowning in the deep.

Well it's crazy to imagine,
Words from our lips as the arms of compassion,
Mountains crumble with every syllable.
Hope can live or die.

So speak Life, speak Life.
To the deadest darkest night.
Speak life, speak Life.
When the sun won't shine and you don't know why.
Look into the eyes of the brokenhearted;
Watch them come alive as soon as you speak hope,
You speak love, you speak...
You speak Life, (oh oh oh oh oh oh) You speak Life. (oh oh oh oh oh oh)

Lift your head a little higher,
Spread the love like fire,
Hope will fall like rain,
When you speak life with the words you say.

Raise your thoughts a little higher,
Use your words to inspire,
Joy will fall like rain,
When you speak life with the things you say.

Lift your head a little higher,
Spread the love like fire,
Hope will fall like rain,
When you speak life with the words you say.

So speak Life, speak Life.
To the deadest darkest night.
Speak life, speak Life.
When the sun won't shine and you don't know why.
Look into the eyes of the brokenhearted;
Watch them come alive as soon as you speak hope,
You speak love, you speak...
You speak Life, (oh oh oh oh oh oh) You speak Life. (oh oh oh oh oh oh)

You speak Life, (oh oh oh oh oh oh) You speak Life. (oh oh oh oh oh oh)

Some days life feels perfect.

TID-bits

  • I know a man who is always texting his staff.  Three to four times a week each staff member will get a message about how appreciated they are.
  • New staff find it kind of disconcerting at first.  It seems kind of strange.  Sort of overly positive.
  • But after months of getting these texts, one comes to find out that he really means it.  He really cares.
  • It causes attitudes to change, days to be brightened.  You start to really feel appreciated.
  • I encourage you to give it a try.  Start texting encouraging words to those you know as you think of them.

----------------------------

  • Invite the listener to listen for these great words in the middle of the song.  They go by fast:
  • “Words from our lips as the arms of compassion”
  • Encourage them to either speak some words of compassion today, or to make at least one conversation today with a sole purpose is to show compassion to another.

----------------------------

  • Have you ever heard someone speaking in a foreign language and in the middle of their conversation you’ll hear them say a word you know?
  • That’s something God does for us from time to time.
  • We’ll get worn out and stressed out from the noise in this world and then all of a sudden we’ll hear a word - maybe from one of the songs we play - or definitely from one of His scriptures.
  • When that happens we know He has spoken love directly to us.
  • And it turns us around.

----------------------------

  • Dick Dye was a missionary in the Presbyterian Church who was trying to start a church in Acapulco, and he wasn’t getting anywhere with it.
  • Months of discouragement went by, but he would often be encouraged by a cross atop a mountain, visible for miles.
  • He found out that the cross was attached to a hotel.  So he asked to meet the man who put it there, just to thank him.
  • When he did, the hotel owner wept.  For years all he had heard about that cross was criticism.  Dick Dye was the first to thank him.
  • That Sunday, Dick Dye had a place to have church - that hotel.
  • Within four years they had grown to four congregations.
  • All because one man spoke life and thankfulness to another.

    Scripture References

    Proverbs 18:21

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

    ----------------------------

    Psalm 119:28

My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.

    ----------------------------

    John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about someone you know who is a fireball of energy and encouragement.  Share how they live the message of this song.

    ----------------------------

Relate a time when someone spoke encouragement to you.  A time when tears of sorrow turned to tears of relief.

    ----------------------------

Remember the days before we all had cell phones and internet?  The days when we really had to go out of our way to connect to others.  Remind the listener that their phone is really a “convenient instrument of encouragement, ” and that they need to use it that way today.
