Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

(CHORUS)

God, I’m running for Your heart

I’m running for Your heart

Till I am a soul on fire

Lord, I’m longing for Your ways

I’m waiting for the day

When I am a soul on fire

Till I am a soul on fire

(REPEAT CHORUS)

Lord, restore the joy I had

And I have wandered bring me back

In this darkness, lead me through

Until all I see is You

(REPEAT CHORUS)

Lord, let me burn for You again

Let me return to You again

And Lord, let me burn for You again

Let me return to You again

God, I’m running for Your heart

I’m running for Your heart

Till I am a soul on fire

I want to be

Till I am a soul on fire

Till I am a soul on fire

TID-bits

Have you ever seen a dog that is totally motivated by food?  I’ve seen a dog come running because she heard one tiny frito fall on the floor.  My friend calls his dog  “Roomba” because she sweeps in, cleans the floor, and then returns to her hideout.

What would it look like to have that single minded devotion to our Lord, like a dog has with food?  One where we’d hear a need and come running.  Where we’d find a hurt and respond.

This song is a prayer for that kind of devotion.

------------------------------------------

  • Fire needs three things to burn.  Oxygen, Heat, and Fuel.
  • You’ve already got three things that are ready to start a fire in you.  The Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  • God is like the Oxygen.  He is the basic element in whom the Bible says we live, move, and have our being.  (That’s in Acts 17:24-28 by the way)
  • Jesus is the Heat.  Once He came on the scene the church ignited.  He has also given you the grace and salvation that starts you up and motivates you.
  • Jesus also said that He was sending us the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is the fuel - He is what we keep adding to our lives to keep us going.
  • That leaves us.  All we have to do is agree to be used by God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, and when we do, that three-in-one God will fire us up.

------------------------------------------

  • Why do we want to shout this song out?
  • Why do we want to be obedient, or devoted, or set apart for God’s purposes?
  • Why do we want to be a “Soul on Fire?”
  • I think it’s because we know that it is the only way to change a negative world.
  • There’s a line in this song that goes by me and I think it’s the key.  It’s “In this darkness, lead me through.”
  • We sing a song like this because we want Him to shine His light in us so that we can see our paths, and then in turn light the path for those we love.
