Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

You might be the wife waiting up at night
You might be the man struggling to provide
Feeling like it’s hopeless

Maybe you’re the son who chose a broken road
Maybe you’re the girl thinking you’ll end up alone
Praying “God, can you hear me?
Oh God, are you listening?”

Am I more than flesh and bone?
Am I really something beautiful?
Yeah, I wanna believe, I wanna believe that
I’m not just some wandering soul
That you don’t see and you don’t know
Yeah, I wanna believe,
Jesus, help me believe that
I am someone worth dying for

I know you’ve heard the truth that God has set you free
But you think you’re the one that grace could never reach
So you just keep askin’, oh, what everybody’s askin’

Chorus

You’re worth it, you can’t earn it
Yeah, the cross has proven
That you’re sacred and blameless
Your life has purpose

You are more than flesh and bone
Can’t you see you’re something beautiful
Yeah, you gotta believe, you gotta believe
He wants you to see, He wants you to see that
You’re not just some wandering soul
That can’t be seen and can’t be known
Yeah, you gotta believe, you gotta believe that
You are someone worth dying for
You’re someone worth dying for
You’re someone worth dying for

TID-bits

Everyone knows someone who has changed.   Like the 60-something person who was out of shape their entire life, and who is now getting ready to run a marathon.   Or the one who came in off the streets, addicted and depleted, who is now living a life helping others overcome.

Who do you know who was living in a situation that seemed hopeless, and yet they were able to turn it around?   The common thread is that they are people who finally determined their worth.   They realized that God saw them as worthy of His love - right where they were, and that was enough to get them to change.

What can you say to someone to make them feel worthy today?   Remember the words of the Apostle Paul who said that Christ came to save even the worst of the worst - he actually said that he was the worst sinner of all.   Paul was a man who persecuted, and had folks killed, all in God’s name.   Yet Jesus forgave Him, and turned His life around.

If Jesus found Paul worthy of His love, let others know that their sins are not too great for Jesus to forgive.

-----------------------------

  • Bottom line:   This song is about feeling worthy of love.
  • The God who created everything sacrificed Himself so that you could be together with Him.
  • Those who have had a mom or dad sacrifice so that they could have a better life know how worthy it makes them feel.
  • AND...how grateful it makes them feel.

-----------------------------

  • Why do they even put the word “love” in the dictionary?
  • None of us need to know the definition, we naturally know it
  • And I think we know it, because we know what it’s like when we don’t feel it.
  • If you feel more “unloved” than “loved” then this song is for you...

------------------------------

  • John Eldridge in the classic book “The Sacred Romance” talks about the “Message of the Arrows”
  • “The Arrows” are those things that pierce your heart.   The deep wounds of words said to you in the past.   Things like “you don’t know much,”   “you’re lazy,”   “you’re unworthy of this love”
  • This song, however, is an arrow puller.
  • It’s a song with a chorus you need to memorize.
  • This is Mikeschair “Someone worth dying for....”

---------------------------------

  • Some use the word “die” rather flippantly.
  • They talk about how they would die for a good cup of coffee right now, or for a shower.
  • There’s only one thing truly worth dying for, though:
  • Someone else.
  • John 15:13 says “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”

--------------------------------

  • Are you still playing the comparison game?
  • Are you looking at what others have and comparing it to what you have?
  • Jesus leveled the playing field.
  • He died for all
  • No one is better than anyone else.
  • All are worthy.
  • So quit obsessing about what you don’t have compared to others.
  • Instead, diligently think about what you do have:
  • A relationship with Jesus
  • That is a possession that gives you hope

    Your Own Experiences

Do you have a family member whose chosen a broken road?   Talk about how your heart aches for them.   Compare that to how God’s heart aches for His children to come back to Him.     How it aches enough that He would have His Son die on a cross.

    -----------------------------------

Does your own mind keep tripping you up?   Do you still deal with feelings of “unworthiness?”   Talk about your issue, and how God wants you to feel worthy.   Not just feel worthy, but know you are worthy.

    ---------------------------------

Do you have a story about someone whom it seemed that “grace would never reach?”   Maybe someone who was a drug addict, who was always in trouble with the law.   Maybe someone worse.   This song is for them.
