Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

I just can't believe
Where my life was at
All that I know is that my heart was broken
And I don't ever wanna go back

Ain't no explanation
How I saw the light
He found me and set me free
And it brought me back to life

Blame it on the transformation
Changed down to the core
His love is real
And I can't sit still
Cuz my name's not shamed no more

Great God Almighty, gonna change this
Great God Almighty, He gonna change me

You gotta shake, shake, shake
Like you're changed, changed, changed
Brand new looks so good on you
So shake like you've been changed

Come on and shake, shake
Shake like you've been changed
Shake, shake, shake like you changed
Maybe He came to you
When everything seemed fine
Or maybe your world was upside down and hit you right between the eyes
No matter when it happened
At 7 or 95
Move your feet ‘cause you are free
And you've never been more alive

You gotta shake, shake, shake
Like you're changed, changed changed
Brand new looks so good on you
So shake like you've been changed

Come on and shake, shake, shake
Shake like you changed, changed, changed
Shake, shake, shake like you changed
Brand new looks so good on you
So shake like you've been changed
Come on and shake, shake, shake
Shake like you changed, changed, changed
Shake, shake, shake like you changed
Shake, Shake

Great God Almighty gonna change me
Great God Almighty, He gone and changed me
No matter when it happened
At 7 or 95
Move your feet, ‘cause you are free
And you've never been more alive

Repeat chorus

TID-bits

  • Why do we shake the orange juice?
  • It’s because the pulp settles, and the juice doesn’t taste the way it should if it’s not shaken.
  • It’s the same with you and me.
  • We settle, and we reach our fullest potential after life shakes us up.

  • I’ve had times in my life when I’ve tried to lose weight by drinking protein shakes.
  • But no matter how much you shake chocolate and protein powder together, it never tastes as good as a real chocolate shake.
  • Even still, I’ll drink them down so that I can have some change in my life.
  • This (That) song is like comparing a protein shake to a real shake.
  • It reminds you that the process of change is not always tasty, but the results of change  are delicious.

  • Jesus tells you how to get shaken in John 15:4.  He says “Remain in me, as I also remain in you.
  • It’s like one of those paint shakers.  You take a base color - that would be us.  Then a few drops of color, and you shake them together.  They can’t be separated after that.
  • Get some drops of Jesus in you and be changed for good!

  • My dog does what we call a “happy dance.”
  • She dances when she’s about to get fed, and for some reason she dances when we put her on our bed at night.  Round and round.  Excited.  Then she plops.
  • This is a happy dance song.  One that’s done because He changes us when we’re fed His word, and because He is someone we can rest in when the world shakes us up.

    Scripture References

Here are some verses that give us reason to dance

    Isaiah 61:1

    The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

    ——————————————

    Psalm 30:11

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,

    ——————————————

    2 Corinthians 4:16

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about going clothes shopping, and about finding the right pair of jeans.  Talk about how good it makes you feel.  Then compare it to the line in the song that says “brand new looks so good on you.”

    ——————————————

Talk about the joy of reaching a goal weight and how this song is the perfect one to celebrate with.

    ——————————————

This song says “shake like you’re changed,” not “shake once you’re changed” or “shake after you’re changed.”   With that in mind talk about how you’re going to celebrate in the change process today and not just wait to celebrate in the change results.
