Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Sometimes this world starts breaking me down
I get so lost I think I’ll never be found
And there are moments of fear and doubt
Even the best fall to the ground

CHORUS
I am a mess, I am a wrecking ball
I must confess that I still don’t get it all
Lord I believe that all Your words are true
Doesn’t matter where I’m going if I’m going with You
I press on, I press on, I press on
When I still don’t get it

I see the world through my jaded eyes
I get frustrated when there is no Why
I put my focus on worthless things
Even the strong fall to their knees
God only knows what we all need

(REPEAT CHORUS)

Life goes on, life goes on
But Your love will prove
All I need, all I need
I will find in You
Life goes on, life goes on
But Your love will prove
All I need, all I need
I will find in You
I press on

Life goes on, life goes on
But Your love will prove
All I need, all I need
I will find in You
Life goes on, life goes on
But Your love will prove
All I need, all I need
I press on

TID-bits

  • A.W. Tozer in his book titled “And He Dwelt Among Us: Teachings from the Gospel of John," takes on John 3:16.
  • It’s 25 words start off by saying “For God so loved the world.”
  • Tozer boils it down saying that it simply means this:  “That I mean something to God.”
  • The beggar on the street, the soldier alone in the foxhole, the mom trying to get through another day of laundry and taxi service - they can all remember this one certain verse, taught to them in a Sunday school or sermon long ago, and realize that they deeply matter to one person:  God.
  • That gives them the strength to press on.

  • The chorus of this song gives you a great model for living life:
  • First, after we realize that we’re a mess, we confess…
  • Then we believe that He can do what He says He’ll do.
  • Then we follow in faith.  We go with Him even if we still don’t get it.
  • Confess, Believe, Follow.  Remember those three words to live a life of faith and hope.

  • In Mark chapter 5 there was a woman who had been suffering with a blood disorder for 12 years, and after many treatments her condition just kept getting worse.
  • She heard about Jesus, and her faith led her to believe that all she had to do was touch his garments to be healed.  So that’s what she did.
  • Jesus was in the midst of a crowd when this happened, and He knew that His healing power went out to her.  He asked “who touched me?”
  • In response his disciples said “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’”
  • How about you? Do you have that kind of faith?  Maybe you’re just orbiting around Jesus, wanting to see Him, curious about Him - like the crowd.
  • Or maybe you need to actually press on, and in faith, reach and believe.  Believe that He will heal your issue.

    Scripture References

    Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

    ——————————————————

    Philippians 1:6 (ESV)

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

    James 1:12 (NIV)

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

    Your Own Experiences

What is something you thought you needed, but then it became a hassle?  Here’s an example:  A new car.  It was great starting out, but as the years went by the payments became frustrating and the maintenance costs increased.   Use an example like that to tie into this line of the song:  “All I need, all I need, I will find in you."  Point out that our needs ultimately become hassles, but our need for Jesus becomes a gift that grows every year.  Encourage your audience to press on toward needing Him more and more.

Looking at the second verse ask yourself “what am I getting frustrated about” or "what worthless thing am I focusing on?”  (Hello, Candy Crush).  Confess that you’re trying to focus more on the Word of God to help you be less frustrated.

When did you have to trust God so much that you could say “It doesn’t matter where I’m going if I’m going with you?”  Maybe there was a scripture you could share that helped you live that out.
