Taking It Deeper

Seated above
Enthroned in the Father's love
Destined to die
Poured out for all mankind
God's only Son
Perfect and spotless One
He never sinned
But suffered as if He did
All authority, every victory is Yours
All authority, every victory is Yours
Savior, worthy of honor and glory
Worthy of all our praise
You overcame
Jesus awesome in power forever
Awesome and great is Your name
You overcame
Power in hand
Speaking the Father's plan
You're sending us out
Light in this broken land
All authority, every victory is Yours
All authority, every victory is Yours
We will overcome
By the blood of the Lamb
And the word of our testimony
Everyone overcome

  • So are you a hand raiser when you worship?
  • Some people put their hands up when they sing a song like this.
  • They do it for the same reason that an escapee puts his hands up when caught by the authorities.
  • It is a matter of surrender.
  • This (that) song talks about Jesus being the ultimate authority
  • Have you surrendered to Him?
  • The thing is - He won’t take you captive unless you allow it.
  • But being held captive by the all-powerful creator of the universe who is all-loving to you, is the best thing anyone could do.

  • Someone I know has a car that’s making a loud screeching noise.
  • You can hear it coming from a block away.
  • When this song says “we will overcome, by the blood of the Lamb, and the word of our testimony” I think of that car.
  • Because our testimony - the way we live our lives - should be loud and clear.   It should draw attention.
  • But unlike that car, it shouldn’t be annoying.
  • Our testimony shouldn’t draw attention to ourselves.   It should draw attention to Jesus, and how He helped us overcome.

  • There is a difference between getting something free and setting something free.
  • Except when it comes to Jesus.
  • Because He gives you what will set you free, absolutely free.
  • These are some words you can use to give thanks for that, from Jeremy Camp...

  • When you go to a Christian’s funeral, you leave hopeful
  • Because no matter how they died, they have now overcome.
  • That is the model Jesus has given us.
  • When you die to yourself, you overcome through Jesus.
