Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord

Open the eyes of my heart

I want to see You

I want to see You

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord

Open the eyes of my heart

I want to see You

I want to see You

To see You high and lifted up

Shinin' in the light of Your glory

Pour out Your power and love

As we sing holy, holy, holy

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord

Open the eyes of my heart

I want to see You

I want to see You

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord

Open the eyes of my heart

I want to see You

I want to see You

To see You high and lifted up

Shinin' in the light of Your glory

Pour out Your power and love

As we sing holy, holy, holy

(Repeat two more times)

Holy, holy, holy

We cry holy, holy, holy

You are holy, holy, holy

I want to see you

TID-bits

  • Are you persistent today?
  • The chorus of this  song is one of persistence.   It’s almost a command:
  • Open the eyes of my heart Lord.   I WANT to see you.
  • There are times we have to push through.
  • Times that we don’t want to get up and spend time with God.
  • However, God’s grace will meet you along that path of persistence.

-------------------------------

  • It’s funny that you see most people at church singing this with their eyes closed!
  • Exodus 33:20 has God speaking to Moses, and He says “that no one may see Him and live.”
  • You know, our human eyes aren’t made to see God, but our human hearts are.
  • So if you struggle believing in God because you can’t physically see Him...
  • Then you need to stop looking with your eyes.

  • Ladies spend a lot of time with their eyes
  • eye-shadow, eye-liner, mascara...
  • eyes are often a focal point of a woman’s beauty
  • In the same way, the heart is the focal point of God’s beauty.
  • and if we want to know how beautiful, and wonderful, and powerful, and life-changing He is...
  • we have to spend time with Him there.

    Scripture References

    Exodus 33:18-20

Then Moses said “Now show me your glory.   And the LORD said “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.   But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”

    Acts 9:18

“Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized.”   Saul was a man who was extremely hostile toward God,   He was one who persecuted Christian believers!   However, when God dealt with Saul, the first thing he did was help him see with new eyes, which only happened when Saul saw Him with his heart.

    Psalm 51:10-11

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.

    Your Own Experiences

Think about a time when you read a scripture, one that you had read many times before, but something new leaped out at you from the page.   Compare that to “opening the eyes of your heart”

    ----------------------------------------

What you have been “lifting up lately?”   What have you been focusing on, obsessing about, or stressing over?   Can you instead give it to God, and see Him “high and lifted up” instead?

    ----------------------------------------

If we're honest we can admit that we struggle with a desire to “see” or “be with” God everyday.   Think about it in light of one of the things you don’t struggle with wanting everyday - like sports, or websites, or electronics.
