Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

I meet with You
And my soul sings out
As Your word throws doubt far away (ps 56: 3-4)

I sing to You
And my heart cries holy
Hallelujah! Father, You're near (deut 4:7)

(chorus)
My hope is in You Lord
All the day long (ps 25:5)
I won't be shaken by drought or storm (ps 62:6)
A peace that passes understanding is my song (phil 4:7)
And I sing
My hope is in You alone (ps 62:5)

I wait for You (ps 38:15)
And my soul finds rest (ps 62:1)
In my selfishness You show me grace (rom 5:8)
I worship You
And my heart cries glory
Hallelujah! Father, You're here (matt 28:20)

(chorus)

(bridge)
I will wait on You(ps 38:15)
You are my refuge (ps 62:8)
I will wait on You
You are my refuge

(chorus)

My hope is in You Lord

All the day long (ps 25:5)

I won't be shaken by drought or storm (ps 62:6)

My hope is in You Lord

All the day long

I won't be shaken by drought or storm

The peace that passes understanding is my song (phil 4:7)

And I sing

My hope is in You alone (ps 62:5)

My hope is in You alone

My hope is in You alone

TID-bits

(JEN DRISKILL FROM KSBJ SHARES THIS DEVOTIONAL THAT SHE FOUND FROM CHUCK SWINDOLL'S BOOK "WISDOM ON THE WAY."  SHE USED IT FOR THIS SONG)
  • Can't seem to get where you want to go fast enough?  Leave it to God.
  • Worried about your kids?  Leave it to God.
  • Living in a place you'd rather not be?  Leave it to God.
  • Looks like you won't graduate with honors?  Leave it to God.
  • Found a lump and you see the doctor tomorrow?  Leave it to God.
  • A mid-career change seems scary?  Leave it to God.
  • You did the job but someone else got the credit?  Leave it to God.

-----------------------------------------

  • Aaron Shust sings this song from a place of deep dependence on God in his heart.
  • He and his wife had been living in the hospital for months. His two year old son had a rare condition where his body wouldn’t accept any nutrition, and the doctors were running out of options.
  • With his other son farmed out to friends, and his grandmother dying at the same time, his life was in chaos.
  • This song constantly helped him embrace God’s promises and presence.
  • Let it do the same for you...

-----------------------------------------

  • This was the only song on his album "This is What I Believe" that Aaron didn't write.
  • His producer sent him the link to this song written by April Geesbreght and when Aaron's wife heard it, she demanded that he record it.
  • Aaron says he listens to his wife.

-----------------------------------------

  • At the end of the music video of this (that) song it shows a page of the hymn:   “It is Well With My Soul”
  • The first verse is :
  • “When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
    When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.”
  • The only way to have that peace in the midst of rolling sorrows, is to place your hope directly in the one who, like it says in Psalm 65:   “stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations.”
  • You have to put your hope in God.

-----------------------------------------

  • I really like the line in this (that) song that says:   “I won't be shaken by drought or storm”
  • You know, our lives are so intertwined with analogies about water.
  • When there’s too little of it, there’s a drought - which we also use to describe when our spirit seems far from God.
  • When we’re going through a storm, it can be described that our spirit is getting whipped around by chaos, much like wind and rain do to us physically.
  • Maybe that’s why Jesus refers to Himself as living water.   Not too little, not too much.
  • In John 4:14 He says:   “Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
  • A spring constantly supplies water even in a drought or a storm.
  • Are you immersing yourself in Him?
  • Mention that this song talks about having hope in a drought or storm, and ask the listener (or yourself) if you are in either of those.
  • If you’re far away from God = Drought.   If you’re battered by life = Storm.
  • Finish with “God describes Himself as “Living Water” - like a spring that wells up with just what you need when you need it.   Hope is found when you immerse yourself in Him.

-----------------------------------------

  • Mention that this (that) song goes along great with the verse 1 John 4:4:
  • “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater that the one who is in the world.”
  • Encourage the listener that those that have hope in the Lord do not need to be afraid, because He is greater than anything the world can throw at them.
