Taking It Deeper

Your Love is
Like radiant diamonds
Bursting inside us
We cannot contain
Your Love will
Surely come find us
Like blazing wildfires
Singing Your name

God of mercy
Sweet Love of mine
I have surrendered to Your design
May this offering stretch across the sky
And these Hallelujahs be multiplied.

  • All of us have a point in life where we’re hoping to find the “right one” - “Mr. or Mrs. Right”
  • We go about it by dating, by taking profile quizzes - hopefully to get matched up with someone compatible.
  • God’s love is more targeted than that.  He knows who He wants.  He wants you,  and He will arrange it so His love finds you.
  • This is a song about that love, and the joy you feel once you find it.

  • This (That) song is different because it uses some harsh images to describe God’s love.
  • It talks about His love “bursting” inside us, and finding us like a wildfire,
  • Think about that - do you think His love is powerful like that?
  • David Crowder has a song that says God loves like a Hurricane.
  • Love is not always peaceful, there’s a reason little cupids have bows and arrows.
  • Love pierces you, it holds you captive.
  • And one love - God’s love - will overwhelm you when all other loves hurt you.

  • Remember the story of the prodigal son - about a boy who squandered his father’s wealth and ran off and wasted yet?
  • Yet, what was his father’s response when he came back?
  • He loved him.  Powerfully, unconditionally.
  • That’s the kind of love talked about in this song.
  • A powerful love that forgives, and that makes you incredibly grateful.

    Scripture References

Here are three scriptures about God’s love for us to go along with this song’s theme.

    Romans 8:38-39

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

    John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

    Your Own Experiences

Describe a time that you had to go searching for your child, then point out the lyric that says “Your love will surely come find us.”  Remind the listener that God is always seeking them out.

What “thing” have you been seeking lately?  What have you done internet or Amazon searches on?  Talk about the act of searching and let your listeners know that God searches us out.

Here’s another way to approach this thought:  Imagine God’s Google page having your name in the search page.  His love for you is so strong that He’s always searching for you, hoping you’ll come back to Him.

What have you had to surrender to lately?  One thing that’s pretty universal for all of us is the realization that we’re not in control.  Talk about your process of surrendering, and tie it into the lyric that says “I have surrendered to your design.”  Maybe think about how you get to the point where you can surrender to God’s control, and write down some thoughts about that to share later.

  1. When I have something good I always want more of it! How could I NOT want to multiply the amount of praise and adoration I offer to the Lord?
