Taking It Deeper

Made my castle tall
I built up every wall
This is my kingdom and it needs to fall
I want You and no one else
Empty me of myself
Until the only thing that's left is

More of You
Less of me
Make me who I'm meant to be
You're all I want all I need
You're everything
Take it all I surrender
Be my king
God I choose
More of You
Less of me

More of You

This life I hold so close
Oh, God I let it go
I refuse to gain the world and lose my soul
So take it all I abandon everything I am You can have it
The only thing I need is

All to You I surrender
All to You my blessed Savior
I surrender all

I downloaded a cool app the other day. It's called Evernote and I love the To Do list and other functions to help keep my day on track. But that/this song reminded me that spending time with God was not was I put on the top of my to do list I created. I had appointments and errands and projects...but time in my Bible...time to pray were not listed. There's no little box to check off. But, hey there's an easy edit mode! So, why not put "More of God" and "Less of me" at the top of our To Do lists today???

  • Dana Parris' Just Cookin diner in North Carolina was not making it financially, and she was struggling.
  • One day she said the Lord came to her and said she didn't need to do it, she needed to let Him do it. Parris said "The way I could show I was giving God control was to give Him control of the cash register."
  • She decided to let patrons of the restaurant decide how much they would pay for their meals.
  • Since then, her revenues have tripled.
  • In addition to growing financially, she says there's been a spiritual benefit to letting God have control of the business.
  • "There's just a happiness and a peace around here" Parris says.

  • Have you ever heard of the monkey trapped by the coconut story?
  • The gist of it is that hunters will hollow out a coconut and put a banana inside.
  • Legend tells that monkeys will reach their hands inside and will be trapped because they won’t let go of the banana.
  • They’ll struggle, wear themselves out, and easily be caught.
  • Are you trapped by something you won’t let go of?  You can gain so much more by offering it up to God, and instead holding on to Him for your fulfillment.

  • You have heard it said that it is more blessed to give than to receive, right?
  • It’s one of the marvelous teachings of the Bible.  A teaching that goes beyond conventional wisdom.  There are quite a few of them in God’s Word - like:  I am made strong in my weaknesses, I should love my enemies, and the one that this (that) song revolves around:  “If I give up myself, and my own desires, I’ll be fulfilled even more  - because I’ll be getting more of His life in return.
  • What are you having to give up today to become a better person?  How can we strengthen you in that?

    Your Own Experiences

What has God asked you to give up in your life so that you could make more room for Him?

Talk about something great that happened in your life once you gave up control.

Think about something you let go of, and of the greater thing that was placed in your hands instead.
