Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

They all fall

Like a million raindrops

Falling from a blue sky

Kissing your cares goodbye

They all fall

Like a million pieces

A tickertape parade high

And now you're free to fly

Carryin' a millstone malaise

It's been pulling down your gaze

You pound the pavement

It don't give or care

This weight ain't yours to bear

Why you holdin' grudges in old jars?

Why you wanna show off all your scars?

What's it gonna take to lay a few burdens down?

It's a beautiful sound

When they all fall

Like a million raindrops

Falling from a blue sky

Kissing your cares goodbye

They all fall

Like a million pieces

A ticker tape parade high

And now you're free to fly

When that muffled sigh

Says you're barely getting by

Cut your burdens loose and just simplify

Simplify

This is not your floor

You're going higher than before

Drop the weight now

Wait for the lookout guide

Look outside

As they all fall

Like a million raindrops

Falling from a blue sky

Kissing your cares goodbye

They all fall

Like a million pieces

A ticker tape parade high

Now you're free to fly

You've gotta lay that burden down

You're gonna lay that burden down

It's time to leave your burdens in a pyre

Set a bonfire

'Cause when you lay your burdens down

When you lay your burdens down

When you drop them burdens

What a free-fall

What a thrill

Bury them all

In a landfill

TID-bits

  • Tickertape parades.   We never see them anymore.
  • They came from a continuous spool of paper tape that printed stock values.
  • They used to cut them up into confetti and throw them out Manhattan windows for returning astronauts, or for significant public events.
  • Did you know that God has a continual spool running that says you’re valuable?
  • Do you ever cut that down?   Diminish it.   Say to yourself I’m not worthy?
  • Take those negative thoughts, turn them into confetti, and throw them out.
  • Here’s Million Pieces, The Newsboys on (CALL LETTERS)

----------------------------------

  • If you want to get down on yourself today just remember Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
  • No matter how bad you think you are, Christ would have still sacrificed Himself for you.   When you realize that, you can realize the joy found in this song.

----------------------------------

  • Why do we say we “kiss our cares goodbye?”
  • Usually you only “kiss goodbye” people you’re looking forward to seeing again,
  • Like kissing your spouse when you leave for work.
  • This (That) song talks about the other kind of kissing goodbye.
  • Like what you do with your tax records after 7 years,
  • Or a car with 350,000 miles on it
  • The kind where you say goodbye, but with a little bit of trepidation.
  • The Feeling like “do I really want to get rid of this?”
  • Because we do have a tendency to pick our cares back up again,
  • ...but we shouldn’t, should we?
  • We should leave them with God.

    Scripture References

    Psalm 55:22

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let
    the righteous be shaken.

    ----------------------------------

    1 Peter 5:7

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

    ----------------------------------

    Isaiah 61:3

and provide for those who grieve in Zion– to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.

    Your Own Experiences

Been depressed lately?   Had trouble being motivated?   How do you think God can get you through it?   Maybe a scripture will pop up in your head?   Or someone will pray for you?   Or a friend will give you comforting words.  It has happened before, hasn't it?  Get ready. God will get you through it again.

    ----------------------------------

When have you really kissed your cares goodbye.   An occurrence where you gave a problem over to God, and didn’t go back to stress about it.   Did God end up taking care of it?
