Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Raindrops, rolling off my brim

Streetlights, got the pavement glistening

Touchdown, I fall into Your arms

Right where I belong. I'm right where I belong

And where would I be, without You

I'd be packing my bags when I need to stay

I'd be chasing every breeze that blows my way

I'd be building my kingdom to just watch it fade away, it's true

That’s me without You

That’s me without You

Don't know where I'd be without You

Don't know where I'd be without You

Flashback, step into the scene

There’s You, and there’s a very different me

Touchdown, You had me at believe

You had me at believe, You did

Where would I be?

You rescued me

Now You are mine and I am Yours

You rescued me

Now You are mine and I am Yours

You saved me

You saved me

Where would I be

Here are the various concepts this song touches on:   Separation.   Not going it alone.   Rescue.   Drifting in life.   Who you are before you met Christ vs. after.   So here are some ideas that touch on those topics:

  • My friend brought home a puppy from a breeder.
  • All the way home it howled.
  • Every night when going to bed, it howled.
  • Every time she left it in a room alone it howled.
  • The experts (and Mom) call it separation anxiety.
  • Kids have it too - you’ve seen what it’s like when leaving them with a babysitter or in the church nursery.
  • It’s something that happens when we feel left alone in a new situation.
  • Aren’t you glad that with God you’re never alone?

--------------------------------

  • Can you imagine flying into a new city and finding the airport deserted, with no one to meet you, and no shuttle drivers to take you to a hotel?
  • Makes one uneasy just thinking about it.
  • How about giving thanks for people who are there for other people.
  • Because that whole idea comes from a God who is there for us.

--------------------------------

  • Describe a time when you didn’t have a GPS unit, or you were trying to find your way using a map.   Talk about that uneasy feeling of being lost or disoriented.
  • Compare that to God being a constant GPS for life, and that once you start spending time with Him on a regular basis, you feel a little lost and disoriented if a day goes by without Him.

--------------------------------

  • Describe leaving the house without your glasses, or your cell phone.   Don’t you feel sort of “incomplete?”   Kind of “not all together?”
  • Compare that to God and how He wants us to get into a state of walking with Him, and depending on Him.
  • Finish with the statement that “you know you’re getting it right when starting the day without Him leaves you with the same kind of feeling as losing your glasses (or cell phone)”

--------------------------------

  • Why do we hold on to heavy stuff that weighs us down, when instead we could hold on to Jesus?
  • I know it’s painful to drop that burden, it’s probably going to land on your toes.
  • But Jesus will be there to soothe the pain and help you walk normal again.

    Scripture References

    Phillippians 3:7-8

But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss   for the sake of Christ.   What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing   Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ.

    --------------------------------

    Matthew 6:33

But seek first his kingdom   and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

    --------------------------------

    1 John 2:1

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

    --------------------------------

    Psalm 139:7

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about your best friend, and how you can’t imagine your life without them.   Then compare how Jesus has the same qualities as a best friend.

    --------------------------------

Did you ever snatch a toddler away from something he or she was running toward?   Talk about how God is a good parent who does that all the time for us.   Talk about when He did that for you - about how in hindsight you know He rescued you even when you didn’t know you needed it.   You can tie it into the bridge of this song.

    --------------------------------

Talk about the first time you held hands with a member of the opposite sex.   Maybe it was a prayertime at youth group and you got to hold hands with that cute boy or girl!   Talk about how a consistent quiet time with God can give you those same kind of feelings.   You look forward to Him holding your hand through life.
