Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Come to the Water, you who thirst and you’ll thirst no more.
Come to the Father, you who work and you’ll work no more.
And all you who labor in vain, and to the broken and shamed:

Love is here
Love is now
Love is pouring from His hands, from His brow
Love is near, it satisfies
Streams of mercy flowing from His side
Cuz Love is here

Come to the Treasure, you who search and you’ll search no more.
Come to the Lover, you who want and you’ll want no more… No.
And all you who labor in vain, and to the broken and shamed:

Yeah
Love is here
Love is now
Love is pouring from His hands, from His brow
Love is near, it satisfies
Streams of mercy flowing from His side
Yeah

And to the bruised and fallen,
Captives bound and broken hearted…
He is the Lord.
He is the Lord.
Yeah
By His stripes He’s paid our ransom,
From His wounds we  drink salvation…
He is the Lord.
He is the Lord.

Love is here
Love is now
Love is pouring from His hands, from His brow
Love is near, it satisfies
Streams of mercy flowing from His side
Streams of mercy flowing from His side
Cuz Love is here
Love is here

TID-bits

  • I think the bottom line message of this (that) song is:
  • We don’t have to work so hard to find acceptance.
  • His acceptance and love is always there next to us.
  • I know that it’s my pride that often keeps me from turning to it.  Getting rid of pride and asking for His love - That’s the hard part.

---------------------

  • Magnets fascinate me.  You bring a piece of metal close by one and it invisibly grabs it and holds onto it.
  • Think about that when you hear the words to this song, because this is a song about being drawn in by His love.
  • Once you allow yourself close to Him, you’ll want to have Him hang on to you.

---------------------

  • I’ve heard it said that one way you show love to others is to pour into them.
  • And that’s the kind of love that Jesus shows to us.
  • He gives you wisdom and knowledge and acceptance and worth and peace and joy and contentment and….shall I go on?

---------------------

  • The things we worried about in High School become distant memories to most adults.
  • It’s because the things we worry about tend to work themselves out, and we tend not to think about them anymore
  • You could say that worry leads to relief,   because what you worry about tends to   pass.
  • This (That) song is about relief.
  • It’s about how Jesus’ love brings relief.
  • So trust in Him and stop worrying.

---------------------

  • Remember that Sunday night when we heard about what happened with Osama Bin Laden?
  • Remember that the following Monday morning, we all felt just a bit more secure?
  • It’s because there was a resolution to something we had been concerned about for 10 years.
  • This (That) song is about resolution.   It’s about Jesus’ death resolving all your deepest concerns.

-----------------------

  • There’s a scripture in Matthew 7 where Jesus talks about asking, and it shall be given to you, and about how the Father desires to give you His good gifts.
  • If there’s something in your life that you’re searching for, now is the time to ask again.
  • And while you do that, listen to this song...

-----------------------

  • Have you noticed how “Geek” has become the new “chic?”
  • What once was socially behind has kind of become socially desirable.
  • Things go round.
  • What is troubling to you today, will come around to become something that makes you stronger.
  • Jesus is the example of the ultimate turnaround:   From death to life - for all of us.
  • This song highlights that.

------------------------

  • This song (That song) talks about “Streams of mercy flowing from His side.”   What does that mean?
  • When Jesus died on the cross, to make sure he was dead, a roman soldier thrust a spear in his side.
  • When he did, blood and water flowed out.
  • Those bodily fluids accumulated due to the torture that Jesus’ body was subjected to before and during crucifixion.
  • Yet He forgave his torturers in an abundant show of mercy.
  • That abundant mercy lasts forever.   It is available to you today.
  • No matter what you’re suffering through today, you can have it.

    Scripture References

    Matthew 11:29-3

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

    -------------------------

    Isaiah 53:4-5

Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

    -------------------------

    John 4:13-14

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

    -------------------------

    John 7:37-38

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.   Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

    -------------------------

    Revelation 7:16-17

Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them, nor any scorching heat.

For the Lamb at the center of the throne
will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water.   And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

    Your Own Experiences

What was a recent worry that you had?   One you prayed about and then saw it resolved?   Talk about that and compare it to the first line of this song, about having your thirst quenched and your worry drenched.

    -------------------------

Do you ever feel like you labor in vain?   One example:   Trying to get your kids to keep their rooms clean.   Mention that God loves us no matter how messy our lives are.

    -------------------------

This song mentions about searching for treasure.   What is a treasure you’ve been searching for?   A husband, financial freedom, relief from pain?

Talk about how you have to take that to Jesus every single day, and how every once in awhile He gives you a flash of insight that it’s going to be OK.

Maybe mention that that insight is like a stream of cold water splashed in your face - waking you up to the fact that He his here and He has not forsaken you.
