Taking It Deeper

Chasing after this world makes me tired
Praisin’ my own name leaves me dry
There’s gotta be so much more to life than this
A higher calling that I missed
I want my life to count, every breath
I wanna live with abandon
Give You all that I am
Every part of my heart Jesus
I place in Your hands
I wanna live with abandon
I’ll drop everything to follow You
It’s only Your hands I hold onto
There’s gotta be more to life than this
A higher calling that I missed
I want my life to count, every breath
I’m not looking back
I'm done with that
Wanna give You all I have

  •  The average person takes over 28,000 breaths per day.
  • And this (that) song talks about wanting our life to count - every breath.
  • So try this - every time you become aware of your breathing, say this prayer:   “God, show me how I can live my life for you.”
  • We can never abandon our breaths, so we might as well use them to remember the God who will never abandon us.

  • We adopted a dog from the pound once.
  • That dog knew what it was like to feel unwanted and abandoned, and to then be accepted into a family.
  • It’s a picture of how we should react to God.   He accepts us, He loves us.   He takes us into His family.
  • The dog happily abandons the cage to live freely loved.

  • It’d be cool to have one of those cars where you kick it and the back hatch automatically opens.
  • It’s because I’m not a fan of putting down and picking back up - for example when you have to put down the heavy box of papers you’re recycling to open a hatchback.
  • I want to hang on AND open.
  • That’s why this (that) song makes me think.
  • It makes me wonder if I’m hanging on to heavy things in my life.   Things I’d be better dropping so that I could grab hold of something better.

    Scripture References

    Psalm 138:8

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever–do not abandon the works of your hands.

    Mark 8:34-35

Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.   For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.

    Phillippians 3:14

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

    Your Own Experiences

Do you know your Great-Grandfather’s name?   Talk about how we work hard to build a name for ourselves, and 100 years from now it’s quite possible that it won’t be remembered.   That’s why it’s always worthy to do work for God.   Because His Name IS the only one that will last forever.

What is something you were glad to let go of so that you could move forward?

When did you realize that there was more to life than what you could just see, hear, smell, and taste?   When did you finally realize that you had to live by faith?

One Response so far.

  1. Have you seen or even used the expression YOLO?
Maybe you’ve never heard of it….it stands for You Only Live Once.
Some people use that to make excuses to do some crazy stuff.
Others realize that God has placed us on this earth to accomplish something for Him and we need to make the most of every day He’s given us.
