Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Sometimes we fall down, can't get back up
We're hiding behind skin that's too tough
How come we don't say I love you enough
Till it's to late, it's not too late

Our hearts are hungry for a food that won't come
And we could make a feast from these crumbs
And we're all staring down the barrel of a gun
So if your life flashed before you,
What would you wish you would've done

Yeah, we gotta start

CHORUS:

Looking at the hands of the time we've been given
If this is all we got and we gotta start thinking
If every second counts on a clock that's ticking
Gotta live like we're dying

We only got 86,400 seconds in a day to
Turn it all around or to throw it all away
We gotta tell them that we love them
While we got the chance to say
Gotta live like we're dying

And if your plane fell out of the skies
Who would you call with your last goodbye
Should be so careful who we let fall out of our lives
So when we long for absolution,
There'll no one on the line, yeah

Yeah, we gotta start

(REPEAT CHORUS 2X)

You never know a good thing till it's gone
You never see a crash till it's head on
Why do we think we're right when we're dead wrong
You never know a good thing till it's gone

Yeah, we gotta start

Looking at the hands of the time we've been given
If this is all we got and we gotta start thinking
If every second counts on a clock that's ticking
Gotta live like we're dying

(REPEAT CHORUS 2X)

TID-bits

  • When we look at a clock, we usually think about how fast time is going by.
  • This (That) song reminds us of how quickly our ultimate time is coming up.

----------------------------------------------

  • There’s a line in there that says “our hearts are hungry for a food that won’t come, and we could make a feast from these crumbs.”
  • It’s a line about wasting our time thinking, wishing, and stressing about what we don’t have.
  • When instead, we could be living life fully enjoying the blessings we do have.
  • What are you focusing on today that you could let go of, even for a little bit?
  • Try to practice being content with the time you have today.

----------------------------------------------

  • When you get in a life or death situation it’s been proven that the perception of life changes.
  • Your eyes narrow their focus, all the stuff to the sides aren’t registered as well as the struggle in front of you, which takes on a slow motion, high definition feel.
  • Perhaps today is a day that you need to intensely focus on Jesus, who can help you on your journey through the struggle.

----------------------------------------------

  • What are you going to do with the 86,400 seconds you have today?
  • As for me, I'm hoping to use at least 28,800 of them to sleep.
----------------------------------------------
  • Nothing wakes you up to life like when the first close friend from High School or College passes away.
  • You start eating salads
  • You finally take the advice and park at the end of the parking lot.
  • All those lifestyle changes you’ve meant to make start happening.
  • The question, then, for all of us,   is...
  • Why does it take someone to pass away or us to start living life?

----------------------------------------------

  • When someone close to your age dies, you realize that death is on the other side of a very thin wall.
  • And if it’s that close, you start holding the rest of your friends and family closer.
  • Who can you hold close today by telling them you love them?

----------------------------------------------

  • The world’s population is expected to reach (has reached) 7 billion people in October, 2011.
  • Out of that 56 million die each year.
  • That’s about 1 in every 113 people.
  • Do you know 113 people?
  • From friends, family, work, high school acquaintances, the checkout folks at the grocery store...you probably do.
  • That’s why the best thing you can do is to show love to people.
  • Because that may make a difference to that 1 in one hundred thirteen.

----------------------------------------------

  • What if the last facebook status update you made was the last facebook status update you made?
  • A friend of a friend of mine posted on a Friday night that he loves riding his motorcycle on warm summer evenings.
  • and by Monday morning he was gone.
  • Give your friends a “status update” today - one that tells them how much you mean to them.

----------------------------------------------

  • I have a friend who lives in a hurricane zone
  • They have a closet under their stairs that they clean out if a hurricane’s comin'.
  • The only thing that goes in that closet is themselves, some bean bag chairs to sit on, a battery powered radio and flashlight...and their scrapbooks.
  • Photos and scrapbooks always get saved.
  • It’s because people's   shared experiences of life are what's most precious to them.
  • Have you let the   friend, or teacher, or acquaintance, that you've shared life with know how precious they are to you?

-----------------------------------------------

  • Ever notice how when it gets really really quiet you can usually hear the ticking of a clock somewhere?
  • Except if the only clock you have is on your cell phone :)
  • One thing we’ve lost is the ability to hear the ticking of the 86,400 seconds each day.
  • It’s something you should pay attention to.

    Scripture References

    Psalm 103:15

    As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field;

    ----------------------------------------------

    Job 8:9

for we were born only yesterday and know nothing, and our days on earth are but a shadow.

    ----------------------------------------------

    Psalm 23:6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

    ----------------------------------------------

This is to remind the listeners that not all the days of our life will be happy:

    Job 14:1

“Man born of woman is of few days and full of trouble.

    However, Job 14:14   says:

If a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait for my renewal to come.

    ----------------------------------------------

    Job 14:5

Man’s days are determined; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed.

    ----------------------------------------------

    Psalm 139:16

your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

    ----------------------------------------------

This is what Jesus had to say about the rich fool who stored up possessions to live life easy:

    Luke 12:20-21

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

“This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God.”

This is a reminder that we should be living for each day, and should be giving with our words and deeds each day.

    Your Own Experiences

When's the last time you got a note of appreciation from someone? How did it makes you feel?   Can you reciprocate today?

    ----------------------------------------------

Who is the most encouraging person you know?   Aren’t you thankful for them?   Who do you know who lives out the message in this song?   How can you strive to be more like them?
