Taking It Deeper

When I'm feeling all alone
With so far to go
The signs are no where on this road
Guiding me home
When the night is closing in
Is falling on my skin
Oh God will You come close?
Light light light up the sky
You light up the sky to show me You are with me
I I I can't deny
No I can't deny that You are right here with me
You've opened my eyes
So I can see You all around me
Light light light up the sky
You light up the sky to show me
That You are with me
When stars are hiding in the clouds
I don't feel them shining
When I can't see You beyond my doubt
The silver lining
When I've almost reached the end
Like a flood You're rushing in
Your love is rushing in
So I run straight into Your arms
You're the bright and morning sun
To show Your love there's nothing You won't do
That You are with me
That You are with me

  • Fireworks:   They’re big and loud and bright, and you can’t help but notice them
  • I’m praying that if you’re going through a dark time in life today, that God will show up for you like a firework.
  • I’m praying that he will do something noticeable and remarkable.

  • The definition of a beacon is this: It’s a fire or light set up in a high or prominent position as a warning, signal, or celebration.
  • There is one set up outside Effingham, Illinois at the intersection of Interstates 57 and 70
  • It’s a 198 foot white cross.
  • At night, floodlights illuminate it all around.
  • You can see it from miles away.
  • Any time you come upon a cross, you’re coming upon a beacon.
  • Because the cross is what Jesus used to conquer sin and darkness in our lives,
  • and when we remember that, it provides a ray of hope.

  • Have you ever toured a cave and had the guide turn off all the lights?
  • Then you can identify with the line in this (that) song that says:   “When I can't see You beyond my doubt”
  • Because there is absolutely NO light, and your eyes can’t even adjust to that level of darkness.
  • You don’t even know where your hand is when you raise it up in front of your face.
  • It reminds me that up here on the surface there is always some light,
  • Even at night there is light from the stars.
  • There is always a ray of hope.   Hang on to it.   You are not in a cave.   You are not alone.
  • We will pray with you that God will light up your sky and show you the way if you want us to.

  • The great thing about this radio station is that you hear about light.
  • Most media places tend to bring you a lot of negative or sometimes even dark things.
  • Not here.
  • This song is a case in point...Light Up the Sky, the Afters, on (CALL LETTERS)

  • I once lived in a place where they said “If you don’t like the weather around here, give it 5 minutes, it’ll change.”
  • I like to think that if I have Jesus with me, that I should - repeat should - be able to pray to Him and have my attitude changed.
  • Because, after all, even though there may be clouds in the sky, the sun is still there behind them.
  • And even if your day feels gloomy, Jesus is there to help shine a light of hope in you today.

  • It’s more true than not, that when I feel down and depressed, the first place I often turn   - is to myself.
  • I’ll devise plans to get out of the mess I’m in.
  • In Proverbs Chapter 8, though, God says if you seek him you will find him.
  • Turning to Him is the first thing I should do.
  • How about you?
  • This song has a great line:   “When I've almost reached the end, like a flood You're rushing in.”
  • Go to him first, so that you don’t have to reach that end.

    Scripture References

    Revelation 22:16-17

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

    Proverbs 8:17

I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.

    Psalm 31:3
Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.

    Your Own Experiences

When did you have a time that life seemed bleak, and the next day things turned around?   Talk about it being like the sun coming out after a cloudy day.

Talk about an “unanswered prayer” in your life, and how in hindsight, you see that it was best that God didn’t answer it in the way you had hoped.   Tie it into this lyric in the song:   “You've opened my eyes,   So I can see You all around me.”

Talk about a person who always brightens your day.   Name one or two qualities about them that causes you to want to spend time with them, things like “they always have something positive to say, they have a great hug,” things like that. Compare those qualities to Jesus.
