Taking It Deeper

Take away the melodies, take away the songs I sing
Take away all the lights and all the songs You let me write
Does the man I am today say the words you need to say

Let them see You in me let them hear You when I speak
Let them feel You when I sing
Let them see You, let them see You in me

Who am I with out Your grace, another smile another face
Another breath a grain of sand passing quickly through Your hand
I give my life an offering take it all take everything

Let them see You in me let them hear You when I speak
Let them feel You when I sing
Let them see You, just let them see You in me

With every breath I breathe I sing a simple melody
But I pray they’ll hear more than a song
In me, in me

Let them see You in me let them hear You when I speak
Let them feel You when I sing
Let them see You

Let them see You in me let them hear You when I speak
Let them feel You when I sing
Let them see You, let them see You in me
Let them see You in me

  • There’s one thing we’re really good at - and that’s being “well fillers.”
  • I think our lives are like a natural fed well of water.  It’s God’s Holy Spirit continually filling us with His presence.
  • However, we feel like we have to keep adding to the well.  We pour in all kinds of “work” so that God can approve of how busy we are.
  • The constant pouring in of multiple tasks on multiple fronts can wear us out, and it can cause us to lose sight of the Holy Spirit of God who wants to renew and refresh us.
  • If that’s you today, then plan a time when you can take a break to let God naturally re-fill you.

  • What do you see when you look in the mirror?
  • I see more wrinkles, and some extra pounds that I wish weren’t there!
  • Don’t we tend to focus on all the negative things about us when we look in the mirror?
  • Think about that when you hear this (that) song.
  • It’s a song that asks for others to see Jesus in us.
  • But you need to know that He’s there too!  Focus on that next time you want to see the negative in the mirror.

  • JJ Weeks Mom calls him by his real name  She calls him Jason.
  • She sees him in a special way - in a way no one else can.
  • God sees us like that too.  He sees the son or daughter He’s created.
  • He knows you better than anyone else - enough to call you by your full name.

  • Remember when your Mom would shout out your full name when she wanted your attention?
  • “Chris” suddenly became  “Christopher Allen Eldridge!”
  • Right now say your full name, but add the words “son of God” to the end of it.
  • That’s your true full name if you’ve accepted Jesus.
  • Let everybody see you by that name.

    Scripture References

This song is all about Phillippians Chapter 2:

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,

    did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;

    rather, he made himself nothing

by taking the very nature of a servant,

    being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance as a man,

    he humbled himself

    by becoming obedient to death—

    even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place

and gave him the name that is above every name,

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,

in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.

    Colossians 2:6-7

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

    Matthew 5:14-16

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

    Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about a time you were seen in a negative way.  How did you resolve it?

What needs to be taken away in your life to make room for God?

If there were one simple thing you could tell others about God, what would it be?  How can you live your life so that others can see it in you?
