Taking It Deeper

Make me broken
So I can be healed
‘Cause I'm so calloused
And now I can't feel
I want to run to You
With heart wide open
Make me broken
Make me empty
So I can be filled
‘Cause I'm still holding
Onto my will
And I'm completed
When You are with me
Make me empty
‘Til You are my one desire
‘Til You are my one true love
‘Til You are my breath, my everything
Lord, please keep making me
Make me lonely
So I can be Yours
‘Til I want no one
More than You, Lord
‘Cause in the darkness
I know You will hold me
Make me lonely

  • There was a flower girl at a wedding who was so excited about her job, that she threw handfuls of rose petals in the air like confetti, instead of lightly dropping them.
  • It made me think of how I treat my accomplishments.  I like to throw them up for everyone to see.
  • What I should do is hand them over to God, and let Him put them in His basket.  I should try to not be so prideful.
  • Then, if needed, He can throw them up for all to see at the appropriate time.
  • Confessing my pride.  It’s just another way that He keeps making me more like Him.

  • One of the persons closest to Jesus was Peter.
  • And he denied Jesus big time.  Three times actually - and it was when Jesus was at His darkest hour.
  • Yet Jesus took him back.  He reaffirmed him, built him back up.
  • You can read about it in John 18 through 21.
  • This is a song for the times we mess up and need to be restored.

  • Sometimes I say something wrong, or I’m inconsistent with somebody - especially my kids, unfortunately.
  • It’s at those times when I break trust with others that I need to remember this song.
  • It’s only when I’m broken that God can rebuild me.
  • And I SO need to be rebuilt in His way than built up in my way.

  • If I was honest with myself I’d have to admit that there are a lot of things that I desire more than Jesus.
  • There are plenty of things that I obsess over.
  • A lot of them fall under the category of the grade school note:  “Do you like me?”
  • Sometimes I think that I constantly strive for acceptance just so that I can constantly come to the realization that Jesus loves me.
  • He takes your strongest desires and uses them to help you realize this:
  • He is the one you should desire above all.

    Scripture References

    Psalm 51:10-12

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

    Deuteronomy 5:7

You shall have no other gods before me.

    Psalm 37:4

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

    Your Own Experiences

What area of life is God working on in you right now?  What kind of lesson is He having to teach you over and over?  Whatever it is, it’s an example that you can tie into this song.

Describe a time that you were homesick.  That’s the kind of longing that we should have in our relationship with Christ.

Think of somebody like Beth Moore, or some other teacher that brings the Bible alive to you.  Do you admire the closeness they have with God?  Be encouraged that you could have that kind of closeness too.  It just takes time, and the desire to spend time with Him.  What is amazing is that the baby steps you take to be closer to Him, results in giant leaps in growing your faith.

Sometimes I feel like that craft project never finished or the disaster of a Pinterest project that has been banished to the garage – the great thing about God is He never stops working on us. He loves you and promises to complete the work He has started in your life… the prayer of this song has already been answered. Let God have His way in your life and the end result will be a beautiful example of God’s amazing handiwork.
