Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

I have been a wayward child, I have acted out,

I have questioned sovereignty, and had my share of doubts,

And though sometimes, my prayers feel like their bouncing off the sky,

the hand that holds won't let me go, and is the reason why

I will stumble, I will fall down But I will not be moved

I will make mistakes, I will face heartache, But I will not be moved.

On Christ the solid rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand, I will not be moved

Bitterness has plagued my heart, many times before,

My life has been like broken glass, and I have kept the score,

of all my shattered dreams, and though it seemed, that I was far too gone,

my brokenness helped me to see, it's grace I'm standing on.

I will stumble, I will fall down But I will not be moved

I will make mistakes, I will face heartache, But I will not be moved

On Christ the solid rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand, I will not be moved

And the chaos in my life, has been a badge I've worn,

and though I have been torn, I will not be moved

No, no, i will not be moved

No i will not be moved.

No,no,no

I will make mistakes, I will face heartache, But I will not be moved

On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand, I will not be moved No,no

Not be moved No,no,no,no

TID-bits

  •    What’s the strongest foundation? Concrete? Bedrock?
  •   Spiritually, Grace is the strongest foundation.
  •   It’s a foundation that you can stand on, just like Natalie Grant mentioned in that song.
  •   Does that grace keeps you standing strong, especially if you feel like today is another day that you’ve just “blown it?”
  • Remember that His Grace never ends. It always renews. Always lets you start over.

----------------------------

  •   She sings about bitterness plaguing her heart in this (that) song.
  •   Who are you bitter toward today?   Can you cut them some slack?
  •   Especially when you remember that everyone acts out occasionally?
  •   ...And especially since you remember that God always cuts you some slack?

----------------------------

  •   There are people who have come through incredible chaos
  •   And they stand strong because of it.
  •   This is their anthem...

-----------------------------

  • I don’t know about you but when I think about standing on the solid rock of Christ, I immediately picture some boulder on the seashore, with the waves crashing around it, and me just struggling to hold on to it.
  • That is totally the wrong picture.
  • Instead, I think we should think of the rock of Gibraltar
  • If you haven’t seen it, google it, it’s a solid wall of rock against the sea.   Just shy of 1400 feet high.
  • When you’re in the midst of chaos, you need a rock that you can stand up against, not on top of, one that will brace you up against the wind and waves.
  • Christ is that rock.

    Scripture References

    Jeremiah 17:7-8

“But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.

He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

    ------------------------------

    Proverbs 18:10

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

    ------------------------------

    Psalm 18:2-3

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.

    Your Own Experiences

Describe a time when you stood on a beach and felt your feet sink into the sand when the waves came in.   Relate that to how we all feel during times of insecurity.     Offer hope that underneath all that sand, there is bedrock, and we will find it.

    ------------------------------

Be bold and share that you have had your share of doubts, just like is mentioned in the first verse.   However, you’ve also come to realize that there is no greater source of hope than in believing in the God of the Bible and His Son, Jesus Christ.   They are the only ones who offer unconditional love and acceptance.

    ------------------------------

What happens when you stumble?   You reach out.   Talk about a time you slipped on some ice, and had to reach for another person, or for a patch of dry ground, or a tree, or something to help you back up.   Just like you had to do that physicially, it is the same spiritually and mentally too.   Christ is always there to reach for when you stumble.
