Taking It Deeper

I’ve been doing all that I can
To hold it all together
Piece by piece
I’ve been feeling like a failure
Trying to be braver
Than I could ever be
It’s just not me
So be my healer
Be my comfort
Be my peace
‘Cause I can be broken
I can be needy
Lord, I need You now to be
Be my God
So I can just be me
I’ve been living like an orphan
Trying to belong here
But it’s just not my home
I’ve been holding on so tightly
To all the things that I think
That satisfy my soul
But I’m letting go
So be my Father
My mighty Warrior
Be my King
‘Cause I can be scattered, frail, and shattered
Lord, I need You now to be
Be my God
So I can just be me
‘Cause I was lost in this dark world
Until I was finally found in you
So now I’m needing, desperately pleading
Oh Lord, be all to me
Be my Savior
Be my lifeline
Won’t you be my everything
‘Cause I’m so tired of trying to be someone I was never meant to be
Be my God
Please be my God
Be my God
So I can just be me

  • There are the things we think we need, and then there are the things we really need.
  • For instance we think we need to have it all together
  • In reality HE holds it all together.
  • We think we need things to give us comfort.
  • In reality HE is our comfort.
  • We think we need to find peace.
  • In reality HE is says “My peace I GIVE to you”
  • All these things we think we need to chase after, HE’S already given to us.
  • So it’s just a matter of us letting go and taking it from Him.

  • I saw this machine at the airport that, for a fee, would wrap your baggage in a heavy-duty clear wrap with the intention of keeping your belongings safe.
  • It made me think that I tend to do everything possible to hold all my stuff together, when in reality all it is...is just baggage!
  • The truth is - there will come a time in life when you are broken, and all your baggage will spill out.
  • For the times in life that you realize you can’t hold it all together - this is the song for you...

  • Here at the station we have this backup generator which automatically switches on if the power goes out.
  • We kind of live our lives like we’re on generator power.  However generator power is not as strong and it requires a whole lot of gas to keep going.
  • The Bible talks about that - it says “not by might, or by power, but by God’s Spirit.”
  • It’s wisdom that says we should switch off our own power - our own ability to want to control things - because there’s a lot more energy that comes when we let God handle life.

  • Cars have to go back to gas stations.
  • Phones need to be recharged.
  • Your body needs food and water everyday.
  • Your Spirit is just like all of those.  You need to get it back to God for renewal.

  • There was a Pastor who led a Bible Study for Seniors.
  • One week He was teaching on how Jesus invited people to immediately leave what they were doing to follow Him.
  • So the Pastor decided to have a “Come as you are” party.
  • He called each attendee of his class early in the morning and said they had to come to class this week, dressed as they were at that very moment!
  • He knew that most of them wouldn’t, but the lesson was actually the phone call.
  • It was the point that Jesus doesn’t care how we look.  He cares about spending time with us, just as we are!

    Scripture References

    Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

    Phillippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

    John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

    Jeremiah 17:7-9

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.  They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.  It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

    Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

    Your Own Experiences

There was a time in my life when playing drums felt like the most natural thing to me.  It made me feel alive, and it made me feel like I was meant for it.  What in your life makes you feel that way?  What is the most natural thing in the world to you?  Use that as an illustration and compare it to how God wants you to feel around Him.

Describe a time of peace.  Describe that feeling of eyes-closed contentment.  Was it a time of prayer, stillness, meditation, worship?

You know, that’s one reason why Jesus is here.  He is that focal point.  Someone we stop and focus on when we need peace.

This song has a second verse about feeling like an orphan, and feeling like you don’t belong.  Did you ever move to a new town and feel that way?  Describe it, and describe how you had to focus on Jesus and His calling on your life to feel at peace.

  1. KSWP says:

You know how you have friends who can come over even when the house is a mess.
A friend who doesn’t care if your hair is done or if your dishes are clean
You can sit around with smeared mascara and yoga pants and have fun
God wants to be that kind of friend to you…. He already knows you aren’t perfect relax and just spend some time with HIM.
