Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came

CHORUS:
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And pray to God he hears you

CHORUS:
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

CHORUS:
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

(REPEAT CHORUS 3X)

TID-bits

  • It seems that when we have a “plan” to talk to someone about God that the plan usually goes astray.
  • I mean, think about it, if someone seems to have thought out all the reasons why you’re wrong and they’re right, it feels like an ambush.
  • You’re not going to want to listen.
  • But if a friend sees that you struggle too, and yet you have a peace about it,   and they then ask you for advice, then you’re free to share how your faith gets you through.
  • Those kind of conversations can make an eternal difference.

  • Recently there was a recall on some magnetic toys because the magnets were so powerful that If a child swallowed them they could do internal damage.
  • Did you know that you possess a powerful magnet?
  • It’s called your life.
  • If you live in confidence that Jesus Christ will make a difference in all your circumstances, others will see that.
  • They will respond to that.
  • Do you know the damage you could cause to the devil’s plan?
  • So just be natural in sharing your faith
  • Like this guy wishes he had been.   Here’s the Fray...

------------------------------------------------

  • Have you ever prayed this simple little prayer:
  • “Let my words be yours, Lord.”
  • Especially since words can build others up, or tear them down, or stir up arguments.
  • Words can also show others Christ’s love.
  • So, If you find yourself in a situation where someone asks you about the life of Christ in you, before you utter the first word, make sure you pray this first:
  • “Let my words be yours, Lord”

------------------------------------------------

  • Have you ever seen that show “Intervention” where family members confront loved ones who are destroying their lives through substance abuse?
  • Usually when the intervention comes it’s not by the family laying down everything the loved one does wrong
  • It’s by the family listing all the reasons why they love them, and helping them see that there is a path back to normalcy.
  • Think about that as you listen to this song...

    Scripture References

    Matthew 5:14-16

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

    ------------------------------------------------

    Matthew 28:18-20

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

    ------------------------------------------------

    James 1:26-27

If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

    Your Own Experiences

Share a time when someone laid down all the things you were doing wrong.   Did you even care about listening to their suggestions for correction?   Relate it to this song, and how it’s better to love a person into the kingdom than to talk a person into the kingdom.

    ------------------------------------------------

There’s a line in this song that says “Drive until you lose the road.”   Mention that line and talk about a time when you came to a dead end in your life, and you had to turn around back to Christ.

    ------------------------------------------------

Talk about losing a friend because of a misunderstanding.   Talk about how important it is to not let these things go on.   Encourage a listener to make a phone call to a friend or loved one that they need to reconcile with.
