Taking It Deeper


I've been running through rain that I thought would never end

It all comes down to this:  Do you find God to be a trustworthy God?

You can go from feeling unloved to loved, unwanted to wanted, unappreciated to valued, unneeded to having a purpose, unwelcome to “welcomed with open arms,” unhappy to joyful, under stress to under control, under funded to having enough, under valued to significant, or simply underwater in life to simply overcoming.

All by placing your trust in God in every aspect of your life.

You may have been a Christian for a long time, but have you ever been a fully trusting follower of Christ?

How about going through your day today saying “God, I’m going to let you handle this.”  Look to Him and find hope with everything that comes your way.


  • In his book “Heaven” Randy Alcorn says that every culture has some belief in the afterlife.
  • Australian aborigines picture it as a distant island, so do Finns.
  • Ancient Mexicans, Peruvians, and Polynesians believed they went to the sun or moon after death.
  • Ancient Romans believed it to be the Elysian fields that the righteous would picnic in.
  • Anthropologists continue to find evidence that every culture has a God-given, innate sense of the eternal - that this world is not all there is.
  • If you believe that heaven is in your future… then it’s easy to believe that God will work out the problem that’s bothering you right now.


  • The yellow diamond road signs always tell you what is coming up ahead, like a stop light or a curves.
  • This song is a road sign for your life - it lets you know that hope is always coming up.
  • So steer toward it.


  • We hardly ever consciously take into account that there is a wall in front of us.
  • I mean, take a moment right now and realize that some sort of barrier is separating you from where you’re wanting to go.
  • Hope is like a wall.  It’s something that will always be in front of you,
  • You just have to realize it’s there between where you are and where you need to go.

    Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.


    Romans 5:2-7 

    through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.  Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;  perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.  You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.  Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.

    And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.  Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.  But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.


    Your Own Experiences


    Share this line with your audience:  “Time heals all but the present time.”  Talk about a period of loss in your life where the hurt was great and the only thing that healed it was time and the belief that it would get better.


    Talk about a family road trip and how the journey there is always more exciting than the journey back.  For example, the trip to Disney World is filled with anticipation and giddiness, while the trip back is filled with whines and moans of “when are we going to be home?”

    This is a song about the anticipation and excitement of getting where you’re going, and about realizing that the one driving the station wagon is full of love and patience for you.


    Talk about the value of placing your hope in the person of Jesus Christ versus placing it in the shakiness of this world.
