Taking It Deeper

Hello Mercy,

I have been searching for you lately

I've been wounded and from what I hear

You have the remedy

They told me You would be for me

So now I need to know

Is this a love that can save me

Or say You will then don't

Will You stay with me when nobody is around

If this is real, then tell me now

Can you hold me together

Can your love reach down this far

Can you hold me together

Cause without You holding my heart

I'm falling apart

Falling apart

Saying so long, been lost, been gone

Not sure what to pray

It's not easy but I know You see me

When I lose my way

I keep on floating not knowing

If there is more for me

Don't want to sink beneath waves of negativity

I'm going under,

I'm afraid that I might drown

If this is real,

I need you now

I'm feeling stronger

With you by my side

And I realize You are my hope

I need to know

Can you hold me together

Can your love reach down this far

Without You,

I'm falling apart

Falling apart

  • You probably didn’t know this, but this song (that song) talks about packing tape.
  • Yeah - You ever had to move, and you ended up getting flattened cardboard boxes from a store?
  • Boxes that we’re all weakened and worn out.
  • You had to use a lot of tape so they’d be able to hold your books and pots and pans.
  • This song (That song) talks about how mercy holds us together.
  • And we’re here with plenty of mercy strips for you today.

  • There’s a movie with Tom Hanks that has a great line in it:
  • “There’s no crying in baseball!!”
  • Some of us think that applies to all of life, too.
  • However, tears were made by God for a reason.
  • Emotional tears contain a lot of hormones that when released from the body keep us from staying depressed.
  • In essence, the tears help hold us together,
  • So don’t feel you have to hold them in.
  • This (That) song kind of echoes that thought.

  • Remember the floaty things you put on your kids arms when they’re learning to swim?
  • This (that) song made me think of them.
  • It has (had) a line that says “I keep on floating not knowing if there is more for me.   Don't want to sink beneath waves of negativity”
  • Each and every day I have to keep realizing that God’s mercy keeps me afloat.
  • It’s like having His hands holding me up under my arms, keeping my head from going under.

    Isaiah 63:9

In all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and mercy he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.

    Titus 3:5

    1 Peter 1:3

    Luke 18:35-43

As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”

He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied.

Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about the last time you forgot about God’s mercy, and He came back and gently reminded you of it.

What was a verse that came to you when you had trouble holding it together? Talk about it.

It’s been said that Mercy is God seeing our deepest need and acting out of pity for us, as compared to Grace, which is God being generous to us when we don’t deserve it.   When did you have a deep need and you cried out for God’s mercy?
