Taking It Deeper

So your life feels like it don't make sense
And you think to yourself I'm a good person
So why do these things keep happenin'
Why you gotta deal with them
You may be knocked down now but don't forget
What He said, He said
I won't give you more
More than you can take
And I might let you bend
But I won't let you break
And oh oh oh oh oh oh
I'll never ever let you
Go oh oh oh oh oh
Don't you forget what He said
Who you are ain't what your goin' through
So don't let it get the best of you
‘Cause God knows everything you need
So you ain't gotta worry
You may be knocked down now but just believe
What He said, He said
Don't fear when you go through the fire
Hang on when it's down to the wire
Stand tall and remember what He said
I won't give you more
More than you can take
And I might let you bend
But I won't let you break
Don't you forget what He said
Don't you forget what He said
What He said

  • Remember the punching bags we had when we were kids?
  • The ones that looked like a clown with a big red nose that squeeked.
  • The base had sand in it to weigh it down so that when you punched it and knocked it over, it sprang back up.
  • This (that) song reminds us that Jesus is the base we stand on.   He is the one who brings us back up when the world keeps knocking us down.

  • It is a known fact that you can’t carry more than your arms can hold.
  • So when you are given more than you can take, you have to hand over some of it to others.
  • That’s why it’s best to give the burdens you’re carrying over to Jesus.
  • His arms are big enough.

  • We worry about being able to  endure  through temptation.
  • But Phillippians 4:6-7   tells us not to be anxious about anything, but to pray to God.   And by doing that our hearts will be guarded.
  • Only by  endearing  ourselves to Him through prayer can we  endure  our struggles.

  •  I wish I could be like Marilu Henner.
  • The actress who is best known for her role in the sitcom “Taxi” has a condition called “HSAM” otherwise known as “Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory.”
  • You mention a date to her and she can remember every detail of that day.   What she was wearing, what day of the week it was, and what happened.
  • (I have trouble remembering what I had for dinner last night!)
  • I’d like to be like her so that I could remember all the times that God pulled me through when it seemed like I’d break under the weight of some problem.
  • I may not be able to remember everything, but what I need to remember are the words to this song...

  • Remember Cracker Jacks?
  • This (That) song has a line that says   “Who you are ain't what your goin' through.”
  • On the outside people may see you like a fancy decorated Cracker Jack box,
  • But God looks at you and sees what you truly are.
  • Someone a little sweet, a little nutty
  • Someone who definitely has a prize inside.

  • Why do we have to be tempted?
  • Part of it may be for us to remember.
  • To remember that we shouldn’t go through our struggles alone.
  • To remember that He wants us to trust Him.
  • Which helps us remember to “Rejoice in the Lord always,” as it says in Philippians 4:4.
  • I think that’s what we ultimately should be doing, and temptation is one way to get us to that state.

    Scripture References

    1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

    Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

    Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

    Your Own Experiences

Was there ever a time you let go of God, but found He never let go of you?

Have you ever been in a conversation and found yourself saying “Yeah, what he said”;   Or, in other words, agreeing with the person speaking?   Talk about a time when you just had to determine that you were going to agree with God, and trust that He was going to work it out.

Talk about a time when you decided you weren’t going to let your problems define you, but instead you were going to be defined by what God said about you.
