Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

It's the song of the redeemed
Rising from the African plain
It's the song of the forgiven
Drowning out the Amazon rain
The song of Asian believers
Filled with God's holy fire
It's every tribe, every tongue, every nation
A love song born of a grateful choir

(CHOURS)
It's all God's children singing
Glory, glory, hallelujah, He reigns
He reigns
It's all God's children singing
Glory, glory, hallelujah, He reigns
He reigns

Let it rise above the four winds
Caught up in the heavenly sound
Let praises echo from the towers of cathedrals
To the faithful gathered underground
Of all the songs sung from the dawn of creation
Some were meant to persist
Of all the bells rung from a thousand steeples
None rings truer than this

And all the powers of darkness
Tremble at what they've just heard
'Cause all the powers of darkness
Can't drown out a single word

(CHOURS)
When all God's children sing out
Glory, glory, hallelujah, He reigns
He reigns
All God's children sing out
Glory, glory, hallelujah, He reigns
He Reigns
All God's children sing out
Glory, glory, hallelujah, He reigns
He Reigns

TID-bits

  • Sometimes the world shouts at us, and it’s not really that loud at all.
  • It shouts at us every time we watch the news.  Every time we answer a text, or respond to the ding of an email.
  • We check these things so we can know if we’re in trouble, heading for trouble, or keeping out of trouble.
  • What if we put a lesser priority on these distractions, and really let the words “you’re redeemed” drown out all the shouts of the world?

  • Have you ever been in a town where the church bells ring out at noon?
  • It’s kind of a community wide opportunity to praise - one that can’t be ignored.
  • Think of this song as a “church bell” song.
  • It’s one that rings out and lets the whole community sing “glory, hallelujah.”

  • Remember Rocky?  The boxer played by Sylvester Stallone, and remember Rocky’s amazing workout sessions?
  • In one interview, Stallone talked about his Christianity and how he made his way back to church after a life of bad choices.  He said his faith in Jesus influenced his writing of the first Rocky movie.
  • He said he realized that “you have to have the expertise and guidance of someone else - you cannot train yourself.”  That’s how he feels about Christianity and the church.  Stallone says “the church is the gym of the soul.”
  • Let church be your training ground, and let this song be your training anthem….

    Psalm 93:1-2

    Your Own Experiences

This is a great song to go into after sharing a memory about a mission trip.

    —————————————————-

Focus on the verse about the powers of darkness trembling about what they just heard and how they can’t drown out a single word.  Then share a time when praising God got you through a tough day.

Have you ever been in a place that had a dress code?  Talk about the Christian phrase “garment of praise” and how giving praise to God is like a garment we need to wear on a daily basis.  Just like clothes protect our body, living in an attitude of praise and worship protects our spirit.
