Taking It Deeper

Remember when
Your hope is lost and faith is shaken
Remember when
You wonder if you're gonna make it
There's a hand stretched out
Through your deepest doubt
We can't pretend
To see the ending or what's coming up ahead
Don't know the story of tomorrow
But we can stay close
To the One who knows
We can trust our God
He knows what He's doing
Though it might hurt now
We won't be ruined
It might seem there's an ocean in between
But He's holding onto you and me
And He's never gonna leave, no
He is with us, He is with us, always, always
He is with us, He is with us, always
We believe
There is purpose, there is meaning
In everything
We surrender to His leading
He wants nothing more
Than to have us close
Our faith is sealed
Our hope is real
Come what may
We're not afraid
We can trust our God, always, always
We can trust our God, always, alway
He is with us, He is with us, always, always
He is with us, He is with us, always
Our God is with us

  • I saw a commercial where they put a laptop computer in a paint shaker and turned it on full blast.
  • The laptop ended up shaking out of it and falling on the floor.
  • But they picked it up, and it still worked.
  • That computer had to be made of some tough stuff, and all its connections inside had to be tightly packed.
  • When this song says “your hope is lost and your faith...is shaken,  remember this...
  • Our God is made of tough stuff.   He makes you into tough stuff too - tough enough to withstand the shaking.
  • Get in tightly packed with Him.

  • Hey, our eyes are pretty amazing.   We can see millions of colors, recognize faces, detect the movement of a tiny spider across the room.
  • But still, some of us need glasses.
  • And we still use binoculars, and telescopes, and periscopes, and other stuff to help us see better.
  • Think about that next time you’re worried about some outcome in your life.
  • God is there to help you see your way through it.

  • Talk about a time you felt impressed to pray about something.
  • Maybe you were awakened in the middle of the night, feeling the need to pray for a loved one, only to find out the next day that they were in some sort of crisis at that moment.
  • Point out that sometimes God uses us to be the hand that is stretched out in the deepest doubt, as this song says, and it may be through prayer.
  • It’s because instances like that lead us to see how God is with us, and how He works through us.

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about a time you needed God to just get you through something.   Maybe you had to be a one car family for awhile.   Maybe there was a time when moving caused excruciating pain.   Perhaps it’s a time in life - like the teenage years - when you daily have to get through mountains of emotions.   Express that, and follow it up with some words from this song.   It’s a song all about trust, and holding on.

Have you ever been in a dark room with a friend or loved one and you were trying to find the light switch?   Remember reaching out and holding hands as you inched your way along?   Boom.   That’s this song.

Talk about someone in whom you have put your absolute trust.   What is one reason why you trust them so much?   Take that reason and that story and relate it to this song.
