Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

In my weakest moment I see You

Shaking Your head in disgrace

I can read the disappointment

Written all over Your face

Here come those whispers in my ear

Saying, “who do you think you are?”

Looks like you're on your own from here

‘Cause grace could never reach that far

But in the shadow of that shame

Beat down by all the blame

I hear You call my name saying it's not over

And my heart starts to beat so loud now

Drowning out the doubt

I'm down, but I'm not out

There's a war between guilt and grace

And they're fighting for a sacred space

But I'm living proof

Grace wins every time

No more lying down in death's defeat

Now I'm rising up in victory

Singing, hallelujah

Grace wins every time

Words can't describe the way it feels

When mercy floods a thirsty soul

The broke inside begins to heal

And grace returns what guilty stole

And in the shadow of that shame

Beat down by all the blame

I hear You call my name saying it's not over

And my heart starts to beat so loud now

Drowning out the doubt

I'm down, but I'm not out

There's a war between guilt and grace

And they're fighting for a sacred space

But I'm living proof

Grace wins every time

No more lying down in death's defeat

Now I'm rising up in victory

Singing, hallelujah

Grace wins every time

For the prodigal son

Grace wins

For the woman at the well

Grace wins

For the blind man and the beggar

Grace wins

For always and forever

Grace wins

For the lost out on the streets

Grace wins

For the worst part of you and me

Grace wins

For the thief on the cross

Grace wins

For a world that is lost

There's a war between guilt and grace

And they're fighting for a sacred space

But I'm living proof

Grace wins every time

No more lying down in death's defeat

Now I'm rising up in victory

Singing, hallelujah

Grace wins every time, every time

Yeah, I'm living proof

Grace wins every time

TID-bits

Why do we often want to put the big "L" on our foreheads?

Sure, we screw up all the time, but that's no reason to stay there.  We're always developing.

Who remembers the polaroid cameras?  Remember how they'd spit out a blank photo, and over time they'd turn into a color picture?

We tend to see ourselves as that blank picture. Pretty blah, not much to see... but guess who know's what's going on  behind the scenes?

Isaiah 61 shows us a picture.  It shows us how God sees the fully developed photo of our life:

to grant to those who mourn in Zion—

to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,

Take a look in the mirror, and instead of seeing someone down and defeated, picture a child of God - wearing a crown - a beautiful headdress.

the oil of gladness instead of mourning,

In ancient times perfumed oil was poured over a person to mark them as holy.  It was called "being anointed."  John 17:22 has Jesus saying this:

The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one,

You need to realize that Jesus says you are holy.  He's given you His glory as part of your acceptance of Him.   Pour that anointing of holiness over your head, and be glad!  Ok, well, maybe you can symbolically pour some shampoo instead. :)

the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;

And instead of thinking all you have to wear is an old worn out sweater, you realize that anything you put on is a garment of praise when you're a child of the King.

that they may be called oaks of righteousness,

the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.

Stop thinking you are a loser.  God's gonna bring that undeveloped picture that is your life to the full light of day, and He's going to do it so that He can be glorified.

He doesn't want His kids to think they're defeated.

So how can you do that?  How can you look in the mirror and think of the positive when all you can see is the negative?

It’s by realizing that underneath it all, He's given grace.  God, through His son, Jesus, came to rescue the sinners, of which you and I are one.  Grace wins every time, and it wins through every negative thought we have about ourselves every time we look in a mirror.

Put the word “Grace” at the top of your mirror, and let it prevail instead of the defeated words you want to see.

SCRIPTURE REFERENCES

Romans 3:22–24 (ESV)

22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Romans 5:1–8 (ESV)

1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. 6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:17 (ESV)

17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
