Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Wave away my yesterday
Cause I'm leaving it behind me.
Hello sunshine, come what may.
I feel something new inside me.
I hear the birds singing
Now my alarm's ringing
Get up, get up, hey!

It's a good morning!
Wake up to a brand new day
This morning,
I'm stepping, stepping on my way
Good morning,
You give me strength,
You give me just what I need
And I can feel the hope that's rising in me.
It's a good morning

Slow down, breathe in,
Don't move ahead
I'm just living in this moment
I've got my arms raised, un-phased
Jump out of bed
Gotta get this party going
I went to bed dreaming,
You woke me up singing
Get up, get up, hey!

It's a good morning!
Wake up to a brand new day
This morning,
I'm stepping, stepping on my way
Good morning,
You give me strength,
you give me just what I need
And I can feel the hope that's rising up in me.
It's a good morning

Now I'm smiling, and I'm kissing all my worries goodbye
Got the feeling, if I spread my wings I might even fly
You are my truth, my way
Give me the strength to say
Get up, get up, get up
Cause it's a good morning, hey

Mr. Mac to the mic

[Toby Mac]
Hey, top of the morning to you 'disa
You smoothie, me ice cold pizza
Cafe au lait, latte dah
You do the zumba, but I do not
Give me like half a marathon,
I'll give you the gospel of St. John.
Hits me like a wake-up bomb
Cuz' we both know that His mercy flows,
In the morning.

Wake up to a brand new day
This morning,
I'm stepping, stepping on my way
Good morning,
You give me strength,
you give me just what I need
I can feel the hope that's rising up in me.
It's a good morning
Wake up to a brand new day
This morning,
I'm stepping, stepping on my way
Good morning,
You give me strength you give me just what I need
I can feel the hope that's rising up in me.
It's a good morning

[Toby Mac]
Top of the morning to you 'disa
Hey, top of the morning to you girl
To-to-top of the morning to you 'disa
Morning little Miss Sunshine.
[Spoken]
Man, you morning people.
No, I'm serious.

TID-bits

Morning person or not, this song is about celebrating the life that God has given you.   You can tie this in to any story about a person being renewed.   Anyone who has survived cancer, or who has been infertile and is waking up to an adopted baby in the house, or who is remarried after being widowed - any of those stories go along with this song.

God gives us fresh starts not just each and every morning, but each and every moment if we’ll let him.

--------------------------------------

  • You remember how, as kids, we’d often stick our thumbs in our ears, wave our hands, stick out our tongues and go “nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah” to those who would irritate us?
  • The beginning of this song kind of has that “nyah nyah nyah” feel to it.
  • It’s a way to say to any day that “you’re not going to get me down”
  • It’s because you have a brand new batch of God’s mercy staring you in the face.

--------------------------------------

  • There are two things that can help you keep going, no matter what time of day it is.
  • The first is the words found in Romans 8:37 where it says we are MORE than conquerors to trouble and hardship.
  • The second is the words to this song that says he gives us strength, and he gives us just what we need.
  • So it doesn’t matter what time of day it is, He’s there to strengthen you at any time.

--------------------------------------

  • Toby Mac raps “Top of the morning’ to you, ‘Disa in this (that) song.
  • You probably know that “Top of the morning to you” is an old-fashioned Irish blessing.
  • What you probably don’t know is that that blessing was traditionally followed up with another blessing when the respondent would say:   “and the rest of the day to you!”
  • That’s one reason why we can play this (that) song at any time of the day.
  • It’s a blessing that wishes for God to let His hope rise up in you.

    Your Own Experiences

How do you find your energy to keep going throughout the day?   Is it in a morning cup of coffee?   The truth is - we need renewed energy all day long.   Remind the listener that a quick prayer can do that.   If they are dragging or dreading something - no matter what time of day it is - then they can stop and pray to feel the “hope that rises up in me” like it says in this song.

    --------------------------------------

This song has a line that says “I’m just living in this moment.” Talk about how difficult it is to try and keep today’s tasks going as well as working on tomorrow’s and the next day’s.   Invite the listener to enjoy this song as a three minute break from all that stress.   Let them live in the moment while it plays.

    --------------------------------------

There are two keys in this song that will help get you through life.   They are the words:   “Arms raised, un-phased.   The first key: “Arms raised” means worship.   Invite the listener to take a deep breath, and exhale with a prayer of worship.   The second key is the word, “un-phased.”   The only way to be un-phased is by realizing that God is in control.   Encourage the listener to give every care to Him, because He is the one who can solve those cares.
