Taking It Deeper

You were walking on the moon
Now you’re feeling low
What they said wasn’t true
You’re beautiful
Sticks n’ stones
Break your bones
I know what you’re feelin’
Words like those
Won’t steal ya glow
You’re one in a million
This, this is for all the girls
Boys all over the world
Whatever you’ve been told
You’re worth more than gold
So hold your head up high
It’s your time to shine
From the inside out it shows
You’re worth more than gold
When everybody keeps score
Afraid you’re gonna lose
Just ignore
They don’t know the real you
All the rain in the sky can’t put out your fire
Of all the stars out tonight you shine brighter
So don’t let anybody tell you that you’re not loved
And don’t let anybody tell you that you’re not enough
Yeah, there are days when we all feel like we’re messed up
But the truth is that we’re all diamonds in the rough
So don’t be ashamed to wear your crown
You’re a king, you’re a queen inside and out
You glow like the moon
You shine like the stars
This is for you
Wherever you are

  • The video of this song is great to watch with your teenagers.
  • It gives you a great way to talk to them about the proper way to treat others.
  • It also helps bridge the topic of whether they’re feeling ridiculed or bullied.

  • That song speaks about the need to “feel wanted.”   It’s a driving force in our life.
  • It can drive us into places we shouldn’t be - into the arms of people who will use us and abuse us for instance.
  • That happened to Tanya.   At fourteen, she was convinced by a 38-year-old man that nobody cared for her except him.
  • She was held captive by him for ten years.
  • One day, she told the owner of a local deli who she really was.   This gentleman, Tony, got in touch with the police and Tanya was rescued.
  • Tony, her friend, said in an interview that Tanya just “wanted to be wanted. That’s all”
  • A lot of heartache can be avoided when we truly know that God wants us.   He has a wanted poster of us in His house.   Our picture is on His milk cartons.
  • We just have to let ourselves be found by Him.
  • The pureness of gold is classified by karats.   For instance, an 18 karat gold band contains only 75% gold.   A 24 karat band is 100% gold.
  • This is a song for when I feel like I’m living a 12 karat life.

  • It’s not surprising to be surfing the internet and have an article called “the 10 ugliest celebrities” pop up.
  • Our culture likes to tear people down like that.
  • So we’re a little counter cultural, we like to tell you how much you matter, and how beautiful you are.
  • A song like this one does just that...

    Scripture References

    Matthew 10:29-31

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.   And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.   So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

    1 Samuel 16:7

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

    1 Peter 3:3-4

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes.   Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

    Your Own Experiences

What was the last instance where you were told you were worth something?   Is there someone that you can tell that to today?   Maybe you can encourage the listeners to leave an anonymous sticky note that says “you are worth more than gold.”

Talk about how the Bible talks about us being “refined like gold.”   How has God made you better through struggles?   Encourage a struggling listener that we all go through this.   God sees them as worthy enough to be refined into something even more beautiful.

Did you ever hear the words “we wouldn’t pick on you unless we loved you?”   Talk about how sometimes we’ll get picked on, but if it ultimately causes us to draw closer to God, it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

One Response so far.

  1. Saw this scripture today, and it made me think of this song. “For the Lord takes delight in His people…”. Psalms 149:4. Makes me smile when I think that my daddy DELIGHTS in me.
