Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

I'm coming back to the start
I got this freedom
In here we feel Your heart
Your heartbeat for us
Take me
This is all I can bring

[Chorus]
You'll never stop loving us
No matter how far we run
You'll never give up on us
All of heaven shouts: let the future begin
Let the future begin

Take me
This is all I can bring

[Chorus]
I feel alive, I come alive
I am alive on God's great dance floor
I feel alive, I come alive
I am alive on God's great dance floor
I feel alive, I come alive
I am alive on God's great dance floor
I feel alive, I come alive
I am alive on God's great dance floor
I feel alive, I come alive
I am alive on God's great dance floor
God's great dance floor!

TID-bits

  • Chris Tomlin says this (that) song is about the prodigal son story.
  • It’s about someone who feels their life is wasted, who is able to go back to the start and feel the grace of the Father.
  • And that grace makes you want to dance.

----------------------------------------

  • If you’ve wandered far away from the things that you know are good and right and true, the good news is that you can go back.
  • God will always take you back.
  • He will celebrate your return, no matter how far you’ve run.   He never stops loving you.

----------------------------------------

  • Great Britain is celebrating over the birth of a new prince.
  • There is joy in the streets.   People are excited over this new life, and this future king.

----------------------------------------

  • An Native American Indian and a New Yorker were walking the streets of Manhattan during rush hour.
  • Amidst the traffic and the honking and shouting, the Native American heard a cricket, to which the New Yorker was incredulous.   “How can you possibly hear that” he said.
  • The Native American had lived in the outdoors all his life.   “My ears are tuned to that sound.”
  • Just then the Native American dropped a quarter on the sidewalk.   When he did, numerous heads turned.
  • We all identify with certain sounds.   They grab us, they flash memories in our mind.
  • Ultimately there will be a new sound that we’ll identify with.
  • It’ll be the music on God’s Great Dance Floor.
  • This is a taste of it...

----------------------------------------

  • The Sistine Chapel Ceiling.   Here’s some stuff you didn’t know:
  • The massive scaffolding required to reach the top of the 65-foot ceiling blocked the light from the chapel’s windows.   As a result, Michaelangelo did all of the painting by lamplight.
  • Contrary to popular belief, Michaelangelo didn’t paint lying on his back - it was worse!   He stood up, arching backward for hours on end just so he could paint over his head.   He did that for four years!   Ow!   My back!
  • The Sistine Chapel Ceiling is an expression of praise, and like most expressions of praise, it’s one that causes you to constantly look up.
  • It’s good to occasionally get to look down when you express your praise.   This expression of praise is about a floor.   Look down at your feet and get ready to dance.

(USE THIS TID-BIT ON A MONDAY)

  • It’s Monday, we’re back at the start of another week!
  • Whether you’re starting (or re-starting a new diet) or making any kind of changes, this (that) is a song all about the joy you feel every time God gives you a new beginning.

----------------------------------------

(USE THIS TID-BIT ON A SUNDAY)

  • It’s Sunday, and we’re starting out another week!
  • This is a song about the joy you feel when you realize that God is full of new beginnings.
  • And the best way to begin is with praise....

    Luke 15:25, 31-32

“Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing.   31 “‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

    Luke 15:10

In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

    Your Own Experiences

This is a song about coming back.   Think about a time in your life when you came back home and everyone was excited to see you.   That’s the type of feelings you can tie into this song.

    ----------------------------------------

Have you ever danced the Cupid Shuffle, or the Macarena?   Even if you don’t know the steps, you can learn them pretty quickly.   What’s a situation in life where you didn’t know the steps, but you caught on?   Maybe something like a new job?   Encourage the listeners that God will show you the steps you need to take, but they have to take the first step onto the floor.

    ----------------------------------------

Use the words to Amazing Grace around this song.   Specificially “I was lost, but now am found” and “we’ve no less days to sing His praise than when we’ve first begun.”
