Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

You're the God of this city

You're the King of these people

You're the Lord of this nation

You are

You're the light in this darkness

You're the hope to the hopeless

You're the peace to the restless

You are

Chorus:

Greater things have yet to come

Greater things have still to be done in this city

Greater things have yet to come

Greater things have still to be done in this city

You're the Lord of creation

The creator of all things

You're the King above all Kings

You are

You're the strength in the weakness

You're the love to the broken

You're the joy in the sadness

You are

Greater things have yet to come

Greater things have still to be done in this city

Where glory shines from hearts alive

With praise for You and love for You in this city

Greater things have yet to come

Greater things have still to be done here

TID-bits

There are times in the Bible when people spoke over and about cities.  Moses spoke over the entire land from Mount Nebo right before his death as the Israelites prepared to enter the promised land.  Jonah spoke over Ninevah and that city changed its ways and followed God.  Jesus spoke over Jerusalem, lamenting how He longed for that city to be gathered under God.

It reminds us that blessings can be spoken over areas, and you can do that too.  What is your city?  Not just the town you live in, but the place where you dwell?  Do you dwell in fear and doubt.  Speak over it.  Do you dwell in shame and misery?  Speak over it.

There are some great words found in 1 John 4:4:  “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”   Change that up.  Substitute “You” for “I” and proclaim this:

“I am a dear child of God and I have overcome because You, God, are in me and you are greater than the one in this world who wants to tear me down.”

Don’t let your dwelling of fear and doubt build walls around you.  Tear those walls down and speak about the great God who is in your life and who wants to build something great out of you.

  • During the day the sun shines on everything, including our city.
  • Then at night, the moon is there to remind us that the sun is still shining.  Even though it may be dark, light is still there, reflecting off of that satellite of ours.
  • This is a song that reminds us that there is a light in the darkness, there is hope that will still shine.
  • Let the city that this song mentions be your life.  Population one.

  • One thing about sports teams is that they directly reflect on how great we think a particular city is.
  • When the team is doing great, the city is pumped up. It’s a great feeling.
  • However when the team is on a losing streak, the city loses enthusiasm.
  • If you were a sports team, where would you be right now?  How’s the state of your city.  If you feel like you’re on a losing streak, take comfort.  Seasons change and God is on your side.  If you’re winning, keep your focus on God, because there will come a time when things won’t be looking up.
  • Through it all you need to realize that He is always focused on doing greater things for you.

This song is about acknowledging God’s leadership.  When have you done that in your life?  Talk about it and expand that thought to include how we should trust in His leadership over our city.
