Taking It Deeper

Calloused and bruised
dazed and confused
My Spirit is left wanting something more
Than my selfish hopes
and my selfish dreams
I'm lying with my face down to the floor
I'm crying out for more (crying out for more)
Give me Words to speak
Don't let my Spirit sleep
Cause I can't think of anything worth saying
But I know that I owe You my life
So give me Words to speak
Don't let my Spirit sleep
Every night, every day
I find that I have nothing left to say
So I stand here in silence awaiting Your guidance
I'm wanting only Your voice to be heard
Let them be Your Words
Let them be Your words
I just don't understand this life that I've been living
I just don't understand (x2)
I just don't understand these lies I've been believing
I just don't understand (x2)

(chorus x2)
I know that I owe you my life

Owe my life

Owe my life

This is a song about feeling overwhelmed, plain and simple. One quote I found about being overwhelmed is from Justin Timberlake who said: Every relationship Ive been in, Ive overwhelmed the girl. They just cant handle all the love.

(Excuse me while I throw up)

But the truth is, that really is how it works with God. We cant handle all the love Hes willing to give. Especially when we are at our wits end.

So you can always come out of this song with a scripture about how He loves us when were overcome by life. A great one is Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness;he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

Another one is:

Romans 8:37-39No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • Honey, does this dress make me look fat?
  • You know, there are times when we just cant find the right words.
  • Fortunately we can always pray for the right words
  • Heres Aaron Shust...

  • Do you ever have trouble shutting off your brain when you go to sleep?
  • You lie there running through everything thats going on in your life. Maybe youre a fearful, maybe youre overwhelmed.
  • Its at that time that you need to pray for Gods spirit to take control.
  • Let His spirit keep watch over you, while your brain takes a siesta.

  • There are times when were overwhelmed, or we have something unexpected happen, and were so taken aback that we can only utter one word -- God.
  • Usually its followed by two other words: Help me.
  • Those three words are often the best prayer you can pray.

  • Have you ever welled up with tears?
  • Ever gotten to the point where you just had to release the sadness or frustration?
  • Ever been up at night, going from your bed to the couch, unable to sleep, because your problems nag at you, and you just dont know what to say, what to pray, or what to do?
  • Then this song is for you...

  • That song is a song of desperation
  • And if thats where you are today, then we are here to pray with you.
  • And even though the song says Dont let my Spirit sleep, maybe, your body is just worn out from worrying about your problems, and if thats the case, one of the best things you could do is take a rest.
  • Thats the most common way to get your energy back, however coming up in (x) minutes, I have a list of 9 other things you can do physically to feel more energized.
  • (or) heres a list of 9 other things you can do physicially to feel more energized...
  1. Sleep on a schedule. Most people need no less than seven hours of sleep a night and no more than eight.
  2. Get moving. Physical activity is important because it gets oxygen flowing to your brain.
  3. Eat breakfast Your body needs food to jump-start its systems
  4. Practice deep breathing. Each one of your 100 trillion cells need oxygen. Give it to them.

    Scripture References

    Romans 8:26-28

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for Gods people in accordance with the will of God.And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

    Psalm 6:6

I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.

    Proverbs 8:34

Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.

    Your Own Experiences

Describe a situation that looked hopeless, so much so that you didnt know how to pray about it. How did the situation come out?

Describe a moment when you were speechless. Maybe something of incredible beauty, like seeing the Grand Canyon at sunrise, or the birth of a child. Was God in the speechless moment?

One line of the song says: My spirit is left wanting something more than my selfish hopes, or my selfish dreams. Compare that to how you desperately wanted a toy at Christmas, and how a month later it was collecting dust. Mention that the Spirit desires relationships much more than things.
